Playing the ball around in defence=100% Possession?

I just played a game in career mode with AZ against RBC on Semi-Pro.
When I got in front late in the 1st half, I decided to lean back in the 2nd an try to play on posession. I'd noticed the forwards in FIFA2005 do not put much pressure on the defense so I figured it was worth a try.

To my amazement I didn't have any trouble at all keeping the ball, playing it around amongst the defenders, sometimes passing it to the keeper or the midfielders, making triangles for some variation. The AI just stood there (the opponent as well as my own players).
So I played through the 2nd half with 100% ball possession.

It's a really cheap tactic for when you get in front but it shouldn't have been possible at all to do so.
It was a 4minute/half game but it was so easy, I could've done it for 6, 8 or even 10.

I hadn't played a FIFA game since FIFA2002 and bought 2005 after being pleasantly surprised by the demo but boy does it get old and boring fast.

I'd about seen it all with PES3 after a year decided to get this game but after about 4 days, PES3 is becoming more appealing again.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not a fanboy of either games, just football-crazy, but while FIFA2005 is seriously better than 2002 or 2003, it's still pretty flawed in some aspects.
I really really like the first-touch thingy though.

I suppose your issue would be because you played it on Semi Pro. I tried the same thing in PES 3, and FIFA 04. Second difficulty in any footy game seems to leave the other team hopeless on offence.

I turned up FIFA 05's difficulty one notch, PES 3s and FIFA 04s and the computer immediately started pressuring my defence. In both FIFA 05 and PES 3 I gave up a goal because of it, and in 04 the computer came close.

Really, why in the world would you post somethign at all about the game's AI when you are playing on the second easiest difficulty??

Of course it is going to be easy! Play it the way it was meant to be played! World Class. Have a good game of football...

Well that's rubbish.
I just tried it on World Class (Real Madrid - Barcelona 6 min/half) and I had 100% possession from kick-off to half-time.

And you can't cover up a game's flaws by just turning up the difficulty. The flaws are still there.

I hate to harp on PES/WE as its a fine game. But PES loves to cheat when you try to play keep away in the backfield. 9/10 times it will cause you to have a bad pass when you just sit back. Usually that bad pass will allow the defender a touch on the ball and you start all over again.

Now they do press which is something that's positive. But I've played PES too long to say that it handles "sitting back" well. It just cheats to force you to move forward.

After so many posts on that PES / FIFA debate (or campaign ;) ) i've concluded that people will complain about anything in order to prove their (?) point. :kader:

People join this forum, start one thread that bashes EA, get yellow carded, and are never seen again. Why do it? Im not saying that Mauro DeLa Vega is one of these people, but to many people come into this forum with a negative frame of mind and do nothing but start pointless flame wars and bash games they've never even tried.

And I completely agree with Verbatable, dont judge a game when you havent tried the highest difficulty. The screws are always tightened in regards to the AI skill and mentality when a higher difficulty is selected.

This is why i love this game so realistic

Well, I don't know what the guy wants. But I certaintly cannot maintain 100% possession by passing it around in my defense. I can keep it away form the computer, but I can do that in anygame. Eventually I get caught sloppy (like in real life)...

Coming to these forums just to bash and start flamewars is wrong, I agree. But I can assure you that's not what I intended. I've been registered since 2001, playing both FIFA and PES games since I'm completely nuts about football.

I've bought 2005 because the demo was pretty nice and I'd about seen it all with PES3. Now I was just completely amazed with what I saw with the passing around in the back and the AI doing absolutely nothing whatsoever. Though I might share the tactic.

Every difficulty level should be well balanced so everyone can play a decent game. But I tried and it's quite easy on World Class too.

Maybe people here are looking a bit too hard for people being negative so they can bash them and their opinions instead.
A bit immature if you ask me but hey, that's the SG-forums.
I remember now why I've not come here the last couple of years.
Maybe I'll try again in a couple of years.

This is something all soccer games have a problem with. PES/WE is a little different as they will send two people to mark you. But its enirely too easy to sit back in that game with a lead and play keep away.

Just saying that this problem is probably handled worse in FIFA but its universal in all games.

You're right. In any game at any level I find it quite easy to pass the ball around in my defence. It's just not very exciting.

My first paragraph wasnt aimed at you if thats why your saying this. If in world class its still easy to sit on the ball in defense, thats crap but its not a game ending bug. Just avoid doing it. Its a bit like the shooting sweatspots in 2004, you can cheat if you want but otherwise if you avoid it there is no problem.
