playing PES on Mod-NTSC PS2 and NTSC TV

Hi ,

sorry if this question has been asked already.

I have the option of modding my NTSC PS2 :
Here is my configuration for playing PES on the PS2 connected
to my NTSC TV.

NTSC modded PS2<------------------>NTSC TV
(with PES game)

This mod chip will help me bootup PAL PES cd.

What will I need to display the correct video on my NTSC TV ?

If I buy a PAL-NTSC hardware converter and insert it like this :

NTSC modded PS2<------>PAL-NTSC converter<------>NTSC TV
(with PES game)

Will this help me display the correct signal with perfect quality and speed ???

Please help me out, I need to make a decision on whether to mod my PS2 , because the only game I want to play is PES !!!

Thanks in advance,
Mat

Skip the PAL to NTSC conversion, instead get "Winning Eleven 5: Final Edition" (which is the same game as PES just a bit more refined ie better) and it's also NTSC so you don't have to do a tv signal conversion. Then all you have to do is mod your PS2, copy WE5:FE to cd, apply a Japanese to English patch, and you're ready to play.

Checklist;

NTSC Modded PS2
Winning Eleven 5: Final Edition
Japanese to NTSC Patch
Boot CD (ie GameShark)

Then you're set to go. I'm thinking of getting WE5:FE myself - I know a few guys like Dave, the_man and V-9 already have it, if you've got more questions about it ask them.

okay... i'm in about the same situation as mat. however, i don't quite understand a few things.

i am to first purchase WE5:FE, then copy to my harddrive(?), apply the patch that translates the game to english and whatnot, then burn the game + patch to CD, which i then plop into my modded ntsc ps2, and whammo! i should sit back and enjoy video footie heaven?

is that correct?

where does the gameshark come into use?

sorry, i am VERY new to all of this. very ignorant. i know the questions are just dumb to most... but they are questions to which i do not know the answers.

on an entirely different subject... anyone know the chances of any game featuring robbie fowler celebrating a goal by dropping to his knees and snorting a line? or facing the crowd and pointing at his arse, maybe?

If your PS2 has a mod chip in it you can play backups either through what is called no-swap (direct boot) or the swapping method (this depends on which chip you purchase) which requires a GS or AR depending on your PS2's region.
For example I have a starchip installed it plays both CDR and DVDR copies but it needs the Game Shark because my chip uses the swap method.
You can also patch PAL games to display on NTSC, sometimes they fit the screen perfectly at other times you'll loose a small strip at the bottom. This is why someone recommended WE5FE, which is the newest of the series anyways and you can find the english patch.
Hope this helps.

it's all still a bit shady(as i've never even thought of attempting this before), but i'm learning and every little bit of information i can get helps.
