Maybe we've had some threads like this guys, but I haven't been around for a while and I was wondering if any of the PES veterans agree with me.
I bought PES4 as soon as it came out, and loved for the first 10 games. It was different, but the extra little tweaks made it impressive from the word go. I loved the volleys, the through balls, the powerful headers, the low cros was back and fast, the animations were superb and stroking the ball around the back was more realistic.
But then, huge gameplay issues surfaced for me, and a few of my friends who play WE/PES regularly.
We have since gone back to WE7I and it's a much much better game for my money. More balanced, addictive and most importantly, fun!
Things I cannot understand in PES4.
1. Less control. You lose the ball often because, even good players, cannot control it in midfield.
2. Ackward passing animations. They will sometimes pass with the outside of the foot, or to the wrong player. This usually happens if the player I'm trying to pass to is being marked, the player with the ball will pass to someone in that general direction. I want full control, if I make a mistake while pasing, I want to lose the ball because of it. I need no help from the computer.
3. Too many shots. We usually have 12-15 shots with 8-10 decent chances in a given game on 10min. This is unrealistic. It seems that the forwards will get an unfair advantage at times. This isn't scripted like FIFA or anything, but you can often turn the defender and leave him for dead.
4. Lose marking. Defenders often leave too much space for people without the ball. And it's difficult to make a tackle (see no. 3) so shots galore is often the result.
5. Seems slow and unresponsive at times. You'll get through the defense even with a move you didn't mean to make.
6. Standout players aren't really much better than average ones. Both have control problems and fluid dribbling is difficult, even with Ronaldinho. Something which didn't used to happen in WE7I, where you can tell the better player as soon as you receive with him. This may be due to the ackward animation of turning with ball at feet. Which sometimes takes a tad too long to look good.
7. Overall fun, building from midfield, trying different solutions and making good passes...it has all but dissapeared from PES4. It's just not as fun.
After a few weeks of playing it hard, we realised there are flaws, this game just wasn't up to the standard of WE7I, nevermind the changes to graphics, animations and a good few excellent improvements...the fun factor was missing gameplay wise.
So we went back to WE7I and there it was again. The beutiful game, perfectly balanced. Outsmart, outhink and outplay the opponent, instead of the winner being decided by a lottery of chances and better finishing.
Overall, PES4 is a HUGE dissapointment. I hope WE8LE will be back on track, hopefully Konami has realised that the product is just not as fun as it used to be, just one incarnation ago.
I hope, otherwise I will stick to WE7I untill Konami incorporates their old ways into new versions.
Who's with me? Who thinks I'm wrong?
