Cheers to all

i am new here and just wanted to add my two cents in about the two best soccer games out right now.

fifa 2K4 and PES3.

i have been looking around these boards for sometime and have finally decided to build up enough guts to post.

i would like to start by saying hearing you all post about PES made me go out and buy it after being a long time fifa fan.

i have played both and they are both great games.
Fifa gives all the lisceneces you could ever want while PES 3 gives you amazing gameplay.

with this said the gameplay in both games is better than last years efforts.

after playing both i do not believe that either one eclipses the other in terms of anything. the gameplay is better in PES 3 than fifa but it surely does not eclipse it.

both are great games in their own respect fifa gives you liscenses and very good gameplay while PES gives few liscenses and great gameplay as well as the edit feature.

the edit feature is what has really attached me to this game, its great to be yourself in a football game and play alongside the likes of Henry and Zidane, not to mention the master league

at the same time sometimes it is nice to play with real liscenses and real stadiums as well as names .

i guess in short what i am trying to say is give each game its due respect, sure one might favor PES 3 over Fifa but it surely does not mean that Fifa is pure crap, i get tired of everybody ripping fifa to shreds and not giving it credit for what is does well in both the gameplay and graphics department

i own both games and could not live without them both its like having the best of both worlds

in the end no true football fan would go without either one of these two magnificent games.

comments and opinions are welcome.

cheers :mrpimp:

Nice post, but as I'm not sure which game to go with are you able to put your opinion one way or another? I've got Fifa2004 and TCM2004 but find some of the bugs in them a bit annoying. I play on PS2 so no chance of patching them. Perhaps you or someone else could answer a question or two?
1. Can you dummy and pass defenders?
2. I understand the licence issues but do the majority of the UK players have their proper names and indeed stats that match them?
3. What is the managing side like, I realise it won't be as comprehensive as TCM but want some reality?
4.Is the button interface a nightmare/easy to learn?
5.Does the gameplay really make up for the bugs(if any) the game has?
6.Having spent the best part of 80quid on the two Fifa games and not really expecting much in return is it worth me chopping them in for PES3?

I've trawled the various forums and get the impression that there are more pro PES3 than 2004 but any other comment here would be gratefully received:) :)

i am not sure whether i am the best person to give advice but i will say that i trully think that having both games will satisfy you the most as both are great games. to answer your questions i will try my best but i have not had the game for too long so hopefully some of the veterans will help you out since they seem very skillfull at this game
1.i think so i have heard some of my friends mention it but i do not know how
2.yes most of the uk players have their proper names and stats i do believe especially after using the update disk
3.for me the managing is good enough and satifies me, it seems very realistic but i have never played TCM so i can not compare the two.
4.easy to learn
5.i havent noticed any bugs so far
6.like i said for me personally i have to have both depending on what mood i am in but it is your decision depending on how big of a football fan you are .

i have found more fans of PES 3 than fifa2K4 as well which is partly why i gave it a shot starting with PES2, i just like how some of them are so die hard and call all fifa games crap because they are not each game fifa or PES have highs and lows

anyway enjoy :mrpimp:

Spurs4 life why do you say that fifa is utter crap?

sure somethings are done better in PES but that does not warrent fifa as being utter crap.

jeez some of you people act like you all are salespeople for konoami or work for them, pushing the game so hard

the way i look at it is that both developers put a great amount of time into both games and should be praised for producing such great games.

Fifa is certainly an attractive game and indeed they have made great improvements on their gameplay. But PES/WE doesnt simply have a great gameplay. It has THE gameplay. That is the standard and compared to fifa, it is LIGHTYEARS ahead of fifa.

Of course we can go about arguing on their plus and negative points but what ANY game boils down to is the gameplay mechanic. Look at the library of games you have and you'd see the best have the superior gameplay in their genre.

Its not that PES has a completely outdated graphic engine, it is sufficient enough to complement the gameplay. My only beef with PES is that it doesnt have the depth of fifa especially 2k4, though it is more than covered in the gameplay mechanics.

In context, if you had to live on an island wih your ps2 and either of fifa or WE, you'd be better off sticking with WE.

For me it boils down to the 90minutes,(or whatever the game allows) therefore I think PES gets it. It seems more natural, less scripted than 2004. In 2004 the opposition seem to score in the same way everytime, just 2 or 3 different scripts....boring. I had both 2004 and TCM but played a demo of PES3 and yesterday chopped both my EAs for the full game. I played all yesterday afternoon. I mainly played on 3* and had varying success. No it doesn't have the Premier or 123 Nationwide so it's not realistic in that respect but the gameplay was fantastic. I found if you wasn't properly balanced when you take a shot you mess it up.....this is like real life. In 2004 you just crack it from any position and if a player would naturally take the shot with one foot it would take it with the other in a weird contortion! The management side obviously is not as intense or realistic as TCM but I'll find when I go back to work I won't have time to spend on it so PES will suit better. The goalmouth scrambles are great too, never seen that on 2004. Only bugs for me are the licencing problems, strange handballs and the inconsistant refereeing decisions( red cards for the first foul or push, same as 2004). I'm finding direct freekicks very difficult, but it's all about practice and not having a cursor to move around the screen to show where the ball is aimed at. In some respects the little marker on the ground when the ball is in the air from say a lob or goal kick perhaps shouldn't be there. Even the commentary is reasonable and barely behind the action at all, in 2004 it's dire, very behind and sometimes no bearing to what is going on.
The PES control system takes a while to get used to but don't dismiss the game because of the learning curve....in the long run the moves are far easier and realistic to do.

So to sum up, for me it's about the match.......if you're looking for the real players, the glossy graphics, stadiums etc go for 2004. If you want to play a good game (ie the 90minutes) then go for PES3...............you won't be disappointed!

And FIFA graphics are obsolete. I just have to get this point across to everyone. I just saw my friend play FIFA 2004 yesterday and the graphics were really awful.. The way the players run were so horribly gay

yes this is true, I especially like the faces on PES3, they are much true to their real life counterparts, just look at Brazil and you can see distinct features on all the players, not just generic features like FIFA uses...

Hm, fact is if you watch the faces of players in FIFA 2004, they look realistic cause it is made with scans. In PES3 the faces were made with an editor. It means they put more work on it. It looks more 3D, too. (well the negativ thing is they did not researched faces of all players)

I don't think FIFA faces are too realistic, I mean they do resemble the player, but I guess its all in the eye of the beholder, what I like about PES faces is what you said about them being more 3D, they have more defined lines...
