PES2 crashes

my original pes2 dvd (not the kalisto release backup cd) very often crashes in the edit menu and also in single player games.
i just played Liverpool vs. Arsenal and it crashed three times so i had to reboot my ps2 3 times and the fourth time i was so annoyed when it crashed again i gave it up! is it because i edited both of the teams (i updated the rosters)?
did anyone of you experience these crashes as well?

i hope the knife trick doesnt damage the laser of the ps2 in any way does it?
i still use this trick to boot NBA2k3.

why does pes2 crash so often?

Unless your doing somethign wrong, the trick shouldn't do any damage. Have you done the basics like clean the disc? Check for scratches that kind of stuff?

well, i bought pes2 at the 24th and i played a lot games in multiplayers WITHOUT having edited the game with some friends and it NEVER crashed!
now i have edited ALL the teams flags and kits like the rh4psody site says and also i updated the rosters for Real, Barca, Milan, ManU, Arsenal and Liverpool, i.g. Rivaldo now Milan, Ronaldo now Real etc.

i experienced many crashes during the editing phase in the edit menu itself.
and yesterday i played my first roster-updated match: Liverpool-Arsenal. 3rd minute, freekick with Riise: IT CRASHED. reboot. played again. 60th minute: goal kick: blackscreen: CRASHED.
that happend even a third time.
now, today, i played AC Milan vs. Barcelona and it crashed in the 80th minute when i wanted to take a freekick with an edited player: Leonardo and it CRASHED!

now i cleaned the disc and checked for scratches: it has some little scratches on it. i have it only since 24th thats why i think all the scratches were there before i got the game.

damn, i cant find the warrant anymore. i even searched for it in the dust bin and everywhere else in my appartment. i cant find the stupid thing!
i hope the vendor remembers me and i can get a new disc.

but before i do that i lend the disc of my friend or rent it from the video store.

no one actually experienced any crashes?

i have just tried the game on a different ps2 and multiplayer games and multiplayer cup games and it NEVER crashed a single time during a match (only 2 times before a match but we have saved the cup data before each match fortunately).

on my ps2 the same DVD always crashes during single player matches but only when i load the edited option file.
do you think it is maybe because of the edited team flags?
it cant be the edited players can it?
maybe the flags or kits?

I have edited one or two flags and kits. Also edited many player stats and it never crashed!
Did you also used your memory card to try it on another PS2?
If all of this worked I start to think you still did something wrong with that knife-trick

i have found the error that made it crash!

everytime i have used EDITED kits it crashed.
i set them back to default and it doesnt crash anymore!

thats pretty weird isnt it. then why do they put a kit editor in?

anyway, i hope it doesnt crash if i play with edited kit of one team only cos i want to make Fenerbahce and play against Gala then

This is not a satisfactory solution
When you edit flags, these flags must be saved in the options file.
You have problems with edited flags, so there is a chance that the problem lies in your memory card.
Ever tried to use another memorycard? Maybe there is some corrupted data on your card.
If you have X-Port, you can save all data to your hard disk and reformat your memory card.
If this is a bug from PES 2 we should all have those problems and I haven't.... so it must be either you memory card or your cd.
Does you CD makes strange noises when it tries to read data?

My PES2 crashes sometimes, but not usually in a game - it happens when I'm switching between screens in edit mode or going back to the game from the formation screen. Also, when I first switch on the PS2 and try to load the game, the first time it always says "Disc read error." The second time it usually works, and if not it always comes on ok 3rd time.

I think it's the PS2, not PES2. Mine also refuses to play certain DVDs (completely at random), and even some games are hard to load. I know that early PS2s decay quite badly once they're out of warranty.

Glad you've solved your problem, MisterX. Although, I'll be editing all the ML clubs so I hope I don't get the same prob.

I've had PES 2 crash twice, both times in exactly the same place. After playing a match, I let the highlights run, in full, to the end and then the game just locks up and I have to reboot. But as long as I press X at some point during highlights, it seems OK. Weird.

Aye, the PS2's laser is piece of sh!t.

Love the controller.
Absolutely love the library of games on it.
Hate the cheapsh!t machine.


Comparitively my X-Box is a ROCK - never gives me any problems and just 'feels' more well built than the PS2, but of course the telling thing is that my X-Box is sitting at home in Toronto functioning solely as my sister's DVD player, while my PS2 is here with me a few hundred kilometers away in London (Ontario) and being played on a regular basis.

well, i wish the game would crash with edited flags!
actually it crashes with edited kits. that s the problem cos i wanna make new teams like Fenerbahce and Besiktas.

so, it s a hardware error. ok, i try the edited kits with a different memory card and even a different ps2. if it doesnt crash i m banged cos i gotta get a new ps2 then. sh!t!

i hope its because of the memory card!

but i never had any problems with edited kits and stuff in we6.

oh dear....I am now having a lot of trouble with PES2 crashing.

It was fine for the first week or so when I was playing and editing all the national teams. The last couple of days, I've started editing the club sides and the game crashes very regularly...more than any console game I've ever played. It crashes during editing, during matches, any old time.

There appears to be some sort of problem which arises when you edit some aspect of the club sides.

This really sux.

arthur, try to set the edited kits back to default.
this was my problem.
it didnt crash again for about 50+ games with the kits set back to default but today it crashed again when playing Dortmund vs. Arsenal as i wanted to start the 2nd half-> black screen, crash.

anyway, i dont think it will happen again with dortmund vs. arsenal.

i even created Fenerbahce Istanbul from scratch! i replaced the first south american team. it took me about 5h to create the team from scratch but it works even with edited kits and flags, it never crashed when playing with Fenerbahce.
maybe it has to do with different stadiums as well?

The problem is that I've edited all the club sides to Scottish League sides so need to alter the kits. It definitely appears to be editing the club sides which causes the problem....KCET need to sort this, otherwise the kit editor is rendered pretty useless. Oh, how I wish the game was on PC so they could just release a patch.

Interestingly, WE6 doesn't have this problem.

They have managed to create the best game engine by far and ai, physics, animations, etc could hardly be better.

No game even comes close to PES or WE on that subject...its just such of a shame EVERTHING else in the games seems to be done by a bunch of incompetents programmers.

i have exactly the same problem, but when i first had the game it never used to happen, my game crashes in the edit mode and in game black screens and all that, my ps2 also struggles to read the disc at boot up sometimes and takes long to load...i have ordered a dvd lens cleaner off play.com £7, i reckon the problem is witht he ps2 cos after playing the game for a long time i took it out of my ps2 and it had loads of dust all over the dvd...i doubt ill be able to get a replacement off konami as i have tried to clena the dvdand just ended up scrathing it...what do uguys use to clean the discs
