Just feel like writing my thoughts down.

I have been playing Winning eleven (japanese PES/ISS) since version 3 (1997-98) First impressions were.. ugly graphics, difficult game and fake names. The AI was actually much simpler then, but I can't even win level 2 stars at first few tries.

To be honest, I didn't like soccer then. I didn't watch soccer. I hated man utd because my sister liked it. I laughed when they lost a crucial game. (I'm a fan of them now.....)

I didn't play soccer, but all my classmates did during break time. I only stood aside and looked. One day, i decided to learn playing soccer myself. Bought a small plastic ball and tried different ways of curling.. shooting, stopping, passing...etc. (to the wall). It wasn't long before I started playing soccer with my friends. Soccer became an everyday hobby after school. (BTW, it's 'basketball court soccer'. Yeah we did annoyed a lot of basketball players... those were the days.)

Sometimes, we went to a friend's house to play PlayStation games. Since he's one of the few to own a PS. He took out Winning eleven 3 and introduced the game to us. Woah! How did he do that!!

Dribbling past every defender, even the GK.. goal!
Dribble past defenders, lure the GK out, lob.. goal!
Ran to a specific part of the crossing area, double tab cross, goal!

That was level 5 difficulty. Yeah The AI was that stupid then. What i had in mind was.. my friend could do it so could I. His advice was.. keep playing level 3, then skip to level 5. What's funny is that, he also said:

"To me, Level 3 is harder than level 5, because level 3's defenders don't commit and tackle me, so i can't turn and dribble past them."

It didn't take long before I mastered level 5 and the skill to dribble past everybody. After several winning eleven releases.. we3 worldcup'98, we3 final, we4..etc. it became more difficult to just dribble past players. Thanks to the continous AI improvement of Konami, it is difficult to win the cpu using an average team.

What I'm trying to say is that.. for those who thinks PES 3 is difficult, don't worry. This is because of Konami improves the AI every releases so it will be challenging for WE/PES fans who has mastered the game. The only way to become better is to practise and practise. Even when you loses, don't give up. WE/PES's AI is so good that it feels like another player using the controller and playing with you. Not a robot.

Thanks for listening. :)

This is my first time playing a Konami soccer game since ISS64 and I really suck! I've played 30+ matches on 2* and I lose all the time, I can hardly score a goal!
I try to limit for use of R1 and pass alot.
My shots always seem to go wide.
I need some tips on how to get better please.

Hey sup keemo. You said your shots keep going wide and u need help... well i think your shots are going wide because you have a defender to your side. Having a defender on you when you shoot the ball will cause your guy to pull wide cuz he's trying to avoid defender. you probably need to find shots that are a little more open by practicing your dribbling a little more or by making more passes on offense. (btw if your guy has a high offense/shot rating he has more chance to make a goal with defender on him)

If you want to improve your shoot try in 1* and shoot a lot and when you'll be ready you'll be able to play 5* with no more problems :)

Thanks. My game has improved quite a bit since my prevoius post. I practised for 2 hours in 1* scoring and shoting from everywhere and practising offensive tactics. I'v also learned to defend better tho defending corners can be a problem somewhat.

I can win just about everytime on 2* now so i'm moving upto 3*. I'll come back asking for more tips when I've seen the competition at 3* no doubt

:)
