The Sun Newspaper A BEAUTIFUL GAME

By PHIL BRYANT

MANCHESTER UNITED might be struggling to hold on to their crown at the moment, but Konami are having no such worries.

They are still top of the table when it comes to footy games.

ISS may have changed names to PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER but the end result is much the same.

As the title would suggest, the series has now evolved to PlayStation 2 - with considerable success.

You'll be glad to hear Pro Evolution Soccer retains all the qualities which have had us leaping around our living rooms for the last few years.

For a start, it actually recreates the beautiful game.

Passing, tackling, heading, shooting, fouling, falling over...it's all here. But don't expect an easy ride.

So many soccer sims rely on hammering the X button and hoping for the best.

Pro Evolution Soccer wants you to knock the ball about, find space and unlock the opposition.

And when it comes to defending, this will applaud you for reaching Row Z and punish you for namby-pamby backheels.

The game looks stunning, with the venues and lighting surpassed only by the players' features.

Michael Owen and David Beckham are a good match, while David Seaman's ponytail looks just as ridiculous on a computer as it does in real life.

The players' control is now far more sensitive, fouling is far more common and dribbling far more encouraged.

Quite simply, this game is everything which is great about football.

Yup. The better it is well known, the better it sells. Which in turn will Konami incentives or pressure from the fans to get more clubs teams and countries. I am loving this game every day. Been playing it since I got it this past Friday.
