Unfortunetly for the progress of FIFA and the whole EA sports gang there is never enough collaboration or standardization within the EA sports ring of games. Madden has a perfect career mode but for some reason no other game has anything close to being as good, I really dont understand it, but have gotten used to it by now. The latest gripe however comes from NBA Live 06. I just watched a movie that talked about player personas, and what a great idea. If FIFA would use this idea but footballify it I think it would make for a really quality game. Although granted there are deffenetly stereotypes of players in the NBA such as big Defensive blockers, long range shooters ect. I think there are even more within the world of football (soccer). Just think of all the different types of strikers there are alone and you will come up with at least 6, for example you've got your big strong fast guys like the Jan Kollers and the Alan Shearers who are good in the air and just have that killer instinct. Then you've got your fancy footwork, quick, potent strikers like Henry, Quick powerful little guys Rooney and Bellamy, the list goes on with different special skills among strikers alone. Can you imagine how much strategy would go into choosing a team when so many strenghts and weaknesses are so deep and dynamic? It sounds like the qualities of a great game to me. The only fear I would have is perhaps the game would become a little to arcady (we all remember the flaming soccer balls of world cup 2002) but in the right doses I think this would make one awesome game.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea. For example, they could program it so that van Nistelrooy only scores from tap-ins and penalties :p

In all seriousness though, I have considered something like this. I think EA should mark the "problem" players, such as Diouf and Bellamy. These are guys who are incredibly talented, but are difficult to get the best out of and come at cut-price rates. Lee Bowyer might come cheap but you should have to work hard to offset the bargain price.

Similar to what you're saying, I'd like to see different set-piece skills. Basically, Madrid uses three dfferent players to take free kicks. Roberto Carlos from way out, Figo from middle range, and Beckham from just outside the box. Their relative skills in this area should be factored in.
