Penalty or Not?

ummm i would give it. i mean if i was a ref i wouldnt have noticed the touch by the defender so i think it is a penalty. but if u view it closely and there is that touch well then technically it was a superb tackle!! fenes opponents were unlucky!!!
From the full speed my first impression was definite penalty.
From the slow motion (which referees don't get the benefit of using, keep in mind), my first impression was that defender did get the ball, but on close inspection, it was Anelka who deflected the ball...the defender only got Anelka (you can't tell from that screen in the post above, but the ball is behind the defender, not on his feet).
Good decision, and would have been a good decision even had the defnder got part of the ball, as the challenge was still reckless and there was no way he was going to avoid tripping or kicking Anelka. He would have been better served blocking the shot or sliding farther in front of Anelka.
