Pc Gamer Gives Fifa 2005 89%

The UK edition of PC GAMER magazine has reviewed FIFA 2005 for the PC and have given the game a mark of 89%.

The reviewer seemed to enjoy the game very much, saying that the brilliant new 'First Touch' feature makes a huge impact on FIFA's gameplay, and not just a gimmick like 'Off The Ball' (which is still included in FIFA 2005).

He says that the core gameplay of FIFA has improved in leaps and bounds over FIFA 2004, and where previous editions have failed is that they didnt give complete control of the gameplay to the player, but became frustrating when the players on screen were not responding fully according to the players joypad movements. This has been for the most part resolved in FIFA 2005, and thats what makes this version so much more enjoyable than previous editions.

The reviewer didn't talk much about the graphics, but went on to say that the 15 year career mode is so good that it is better than pro evo's fantastic master league.

What he didnt like in FIFA 2005 was that the career mode made you collect prestige points as your budget, rather than hard cash. He also didnt like the corner system which he says needs to be improved but liked the free kick system.

The guy also says that he preferred pro evolution soccer to FIFA in the past but didnt comment about PES4.

I thought that this was a very fair review, but some of you may think that 89% may be a bit too high a score for FIFA 2005.

I've heard the CPU doesn't even make subs. That in itself is a reason I'd never put the game above 70%, I mean COME ON! How boring and flat is that????!! No variation

can't judge based on the demo.

it sure has improved quite a bit from the abysmal 2004 version. movement and flow is excellent albeit still a bit repetitive in my opinion.

now let's just hope they STICK with the good things and keep going from there and don't try to redesign everything again for 2006.

and they better have a go at the set pieces...

funny how u use to support fifa now the only thing u do is come here to bash fifa 2005 (even though u have not played the full version) everytime someone writes something positive about it. Pretty lame i would have to say.

I supported FIFA yeah, but every year it's nothing special, what makes FIFA 2005 so great, eh? "OOOH it's better, it's better then FIFA 2004, oooh"! Who cares?! FIFA 2004 was RUBBISH! FIFA 2005 is decent, it's not 'amazing' or 'fantastic', it just plays a solid game of football, with an added treat of flicking the ball about without having to control it first.

The demo is from the full, final code. What I don't like about the demo, I won't like about the full version, so take your head out of EA's as$ and let me have my opinion. I'm bashing FIFA with REASON TO! I've been here long enough, I'm not some random PES fan that just comes in here to have a bash and a giggle, I MEAN every word!!!!!! Show some respect, I've been here longer then you CHILD!

umm,,, if you refer to his original post, you will realize that he sed that he KNOWS FOR A FACT that the CPU does not make subs: now according to your "criteria", does he have to play the final version of the game to make that assessment?? NO!! think before posting.

Moreover, i too think that a score of 89% is far too high based on the issue Nick brought up, based on the crappy corner and freekick system, based on the fact that you cant apply swerve to the ball (not talking about that automated crap either), and i could go on and on...

I used to like FIFA games until I converted to WE. now im not a fanboy, but rather a REALIST. Until FIFA can fix its bugs (which are in abundance), it cannot concievably get a score of 89%.

So naturally, i was surprised, yet assuringly pleased, when i read that you "converted". When i converted, it felt great. Must've been the same with you. For what i've heard the substituions thing differs on the version. On FIFA 2004, the substitutions were different between the Play Station2 and Game Cube versions., apparently in one they did substitutions if a CPU player was injured and at times not for an injury and in the other they never did a substitution.

I can't recall if they do make a sub or not, the whole thing of subs is pretty well glossed over, there are no cinematics ( some people may see this as a good thing, but it should maybe be an option you can turn on)

The commentators will sometimes make reference to the subs, but I am playing a 2nd division team, with most players not having their name called in the commentary.

89% for FIFA 2005. 95% (for example) for PES4. That sounds about right. PES might be better than FIFA but that doesn't mean that FIFA's a bad game.

I can't remember fully, but in my time playing the full version of fifa 2005 I thought the CPU did make substitutions. I'm pretty sure I can recall Ally McCoist saying why the substitution was made. Maybe I'm getting it mixed up with another game.

i played the pes3 game on ps2 yesterday for the first time...
its a bit better then fifa04 in some aspects but still not good enough.
the anims are crap, the shots are too weak, goalies are bad, very poor graphics, no licensing and yeah corners and fks r no way better then in fifa. when u take a corner all the players hardly move (unrealistic).
as for fifa05....pes3 cant even get close to it....
im not sure pes3 is better then 04 but 05 can beat the **** out of pes3.
05 is not only about the "flicks" of first touch. the passing is way better. the shooting, the goalie animations etc.
pes used to b better in terms of gameplay till 2002 but those days r over.
