PC - controls problem

I've got a microsoft sidewinder gamepad, and uses it for fifa06. I've read some controls tips and tricks guide which talks about the shift key, but you dont see the shift key in the in-game control config. I cant attach any button on my gamepad to do whatever the shift key does. Maybe it's because you have to have a dual analouge gamepad? That's just stupid. My gamepad has the direction keys, and 9 buttons. Fifa requires 8 buttons, so it's totally absurd that i cant attach the 9th button to whatever the shift key does?
