Makelele didnt make any difference, imho Gravesen is doing the same job, even better. The fact is Madrid needed a defensive midfielder and sold the only one they had. Everyone though changing Beckham for Makelele was a good idea until we saw our defense needed a good Midfielder helping in defensive stuff.

I know it's your opinion, but I have to disagree about Gravesen doing the same job if not a better one than Makelele. If you watched a lot of Real Madrid's play after Makelele left, all the games they lost were in the midfield. Makelele is like Gilberto Silva, not much of a "dynamic" presence but does the job to perfection. Only when he's gone do you notice his impact.

Also, Gravesen had more of an impact in his team than Vieira did in the first half of the season. I wouldn't say he was necessarily much better. Vieira is still easily one of the best in his position.

"Winning no titles in two years is not a good business." Thats part of the game, winning titles every year is boring, i can tell you after more than 10 titles in 6 years you really dont appreciate the nice taste of winning a Title.

Haha you're bored of winning titles? What a silly excuse.

You didn't need much football knowledge to realize that adding Beckham to your team would not solve any defensive problems.

Vince, if Chelsea offers 200% the wages of Ballack and Makaay, Bayern should offer 200% too?
No but that's a whole different story. Real paid that money Makelele requested to half the team already.

You didnt understood me, i mean latelly it was a big disaster to see Madrid losing in CL semifinals, but in 80s, 90s it was not a disaster, it was something different, it was part of the game. I want to mean since we signed Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Beckham it seemed Real Madrid was forced to win every title, if they dont win all the titles they are crap. I dont like that. I just want to enjoy if Madrid win La Liga, sorry my english i cant explain very well what im thinking

You didnt answered the question. Makelele is not Zidane or Ronaldo. If Abramovich offers 200% the wages to any player of Juve, Milan, Barça, etc, then they cant do anything in most of the cases, just sell the player.

Wait a minute, I thought Makelele wanted so-called "Galatico" money to convince him to stay. If I remember right, Chelsea only stepped in with the pay increase offer AFTER Makelele made it clear he wasn't happy with what he was offered by you guys. But honestly, you seriously think he didn't deserve the same money as Henry makes? Henry makes almost half of what of what Ronaldo and Zidane makes.

I think that a lot of people aren't giving enough credit to Arsene Wenger. If this deal went down, there's something he knows that the general public doesn't. Quite a few people in these forums are too simple to separate their hatred for another team with the facts, allowing their feelings to cloud their judgement and say completely idiotic things. We've won trophies galore under Wenger using a less money than Man U and more recently, Chelsea. Our biggest buy ever was Reyes and he cost us 17 mil. We got Henry and Vieira for less than 12 mil a piece. We had Vieira for NINE SEASON AND STILL MADE A PROFIT FROM HIM!! On top of the fact that though he is a fantastic player, he's used up his prime years at Arsenal. It's all downhill for Vieira from here, Folks. Arsenal....retarded??? We'll only know that when Vieira finishes his contract in five at Juve. But something tells me we will only see further evidence of Wenger's genius :)

As much as I dislike the player and the team, I must say that Vieira is an excellent player, and his play will be sorely missed in the EPL by me.

The Legend
I think Vieira still has alot to give, and he's given the team alot of inspiration when we needed it. But like Arash said, I think Fabregas was better in the last season (which may be due to Vieira's knees). Gilberto was definelty missed last year, his tackling allowed Vieira to show his true ability floating forward.

The problem is we need a new captain. I think it should be 1) Bergkamp, 2) Lauren, 3) Henry. Not Campbell because he can't lead worth a damn, fine player, crap leader.

Vieira proud to join Juve
by Adam Marshall - created on 15 Jul 2005

Patrick Vieira feels his move to Juventus is a proud moment in his career after being unveiled by the Turin giants at a press conference on Friday morning.

The France skipper leaves Arsenal with a heavy heart but felt the challenge of returning to Serie A was too good to turn down.

After formerly representing Milan, Vieira comes back to Italy as an established star and his departure will leave a huge hole in the Arsenal midfield.

"I'm really proud," he enthused. "I'm really happy today because it is a very special day for me.

"In the last few years, Juventus have always been at the top in European football and nationally as well. So, for me, playing for Juventus is a fantastic achievement in my career and I'm really proud and really happy.

"It's going to be a big challenge but I'm going to be ready for that."

Vieira admits it was a tough decision to make when telling Arsene Wenger he wanted to quit Highbury.

"Of course, when you spend nine years somewhere it's always difficult," he insisted. "But, when you make a decision, you think about what you want to achieve.

"Yes, it was quite difficult but that's life.

"I achieved a lot at Arsenal. I think in the nine years I spent there we won a lot of trophies. I move on as I'm in Juventus now.

"I will not want to compare both teams; what I want is to just keep going and keep winning trophies for my new team.

"For me, Juve have been a really stable club for the past few years. When I look at myself, as a human being, as a player, and when I look at Juventus Football Club, it is a perfect club for me."

The move means Vieira's last act in an Arsenal shirt was to score the winning penalty in the FA Cup shoot-out success against Manchester United last May.

The point is that, yes Makelele is not Zidane or Ronaldo, but he is what Real needed for them to be sucessful.

With Makelele how many titles did you win?

Without Makelele how many titles have you won?

That makes him as important as any other player on the team, the problem is Real (especially Perez) only realised his importance when it was too late and could do nothing about it.

The problem was not selling Makelele (who isnt a marvelous player in any aspect), but no signing a substitute inmediately.

Before Makelele joined Madrid, Madrid had won the Champions League, so before Makelele Madrid was an amazing team already.

"Without Makelele how many titles have you won?" There is a point noone see, When Makelele left, Hierro, our captain also left, maybe our 2 best defenders left the team and they was not subbed.

Anyway without Makelele and Hierro in season 2003/2004 Madrid was leading La Liga with 8 points, reaching the final of Copa del Rey, and it was in CL Quarter finals... Then suddenly everything got f*cked, and it was not cause Makelele or Hierro left us.

Last season Real Madrid did his record in La Liga, reaching more points than in the last 10 years. But came 2nd cause Barça did a amazing season breaking all Barça history records.

Excepting 3 months (march to may 2004), Madrid stats was much better without Makelele and Hierro than having them in the team. Funny eh?

By the way lets stop talking about Makelele, this is vieira-juve thread :/
