Opinions on FIFA06 after a few months?

What are your opinions now on FIFA06, mainly directed to those who have had it a fair while?

Imo, the game is too easy and quite boring. It is not as scripted as last year but still does not feel like football and i am hoping to get PES at xmas.

et vous?

Ha ha - good luck with PES. The reason a lot of people are pissed at it is because it now feels less like the real game than last years version!

meh, Fifa is always the same goals. Always.

PES5, if you tweak your teams stamina, conditioning and short pass speed, becomes a way better game.

There are those that complain about random passing, etc and thats fine, go ahead. I kinda found a way around this by leaving the auto-switch on 3 bars. I never use it in FIFA but PES needs it.

I tried FIFA again for about 10 games and the CPU always had the same attack, the same goals, the same, the same, the same. Me too.

I'd rather have a 1-1 tie in PES than a 7-3 blowout in FIFA any day.

Just my opinion, which is what u asked for.

Yup i definitely found that after a while my goals are pretty much all similar. The most common one is when one player has a shot on target, the opposition keeper punches it away to another of my players who automatically slides to put in, so so so so common!! As for CPU goals, if playing world class or legendary all goals are from ridiculous shots outside the penalty box!!

True, and to me it's quite easy to play on world class or even legendary...it's easier to get the ball without commiting a foul than PES and some last years FIFA versions...Also it's much easier to score since it's also easy to break through offside traps (which are also unrealistic...CPU defenders always seem to come very far to set up an offside trap)....Opposing the keeper, just come past the penalty spot and wait a bit for the keeper to come out, then shoot with as low power as you can and a goal will come really easily...It's also absolutely simple to score after the keeper punching the first shot to another attacker of mine...

Um - you wanna know how bad PES5 is? I have uninstalled it from my Computer and sold that along with my WE9Japanese PS2 on E-Bay - That's how bad.
You still wanna know how bad it is? - the Greatest PachMaker of PES Games The Wolf has quit the series for now and will NOT be doing a patch for it.

PES5 is a slight tweak of PES4 they ripped the fans off - now crowd - Scripting - no feel - no kits - no players - hardly any clubs - it's a joke...

And you wanna know why?? the PES FANBOYS WHO REPEATEDLY SAY " IT'S THE GREATEST GAME EVER - IT'S PERFECT THIS YEAR - KONAMI IS INGENIUS ETC"

WRONG WRONG WRONG - You keep saying that and Konami has no incentive to improve...YES FIFA has SUCKED badly in the past BUT they made an effort to change - they Invested Big money and time into a new project and they took a chance ...

Konami? It got WORSE.

Wakeup.

Look at the PES threads on any forum. 75% of the posts are about people trying to patch the freaking game to give it what FIFA already has. This year they've even had to try and patch the gameplay by changing EVERY player's attributes in certain areas because the gameplay is unrealistic with the default settings.

It's so good just to be able to pick up the game, play with Manchester United (not Man Red), see the real uniforms, proper supporters flags, hear real chants and play at Old Trafford (not Trad Brick Stadium) and play with proper licensed balls.

PES is still mostly about editing and that's what consumes most of the fans life, where to get the most realistic patch and weekly updated editing utilities. I know because I used to create them but no more. I just want to play and have fun. PES5 this year is so full of scripted play, CPU cheats and unrealistic additions (example: the CPU as the last defender chopping your legs away from behind gets no card!) that it's too frustrating to play. Sure, people edit FIFA graphically but only to make it even more realistic.

Screw Konami, they've spent more time making dog heads (yes, unlockable dog heads in the edit mode to put on players instead of player heads!!!) than working on the things that matter. The Master League is a joke, the most unrealistic and worst career league system in any soccer game ever. The Japanese gaming public might want a perfect labrador head for their players (compared to the horses and eagles and bears from last year, dogs might not be so bad!) but I'd rather see the development time going into making some decent crowd chants (not that there's much of a crowd in PES5 because they cut 95% of it out so it didn't slowthe game down)!

I threw PES5 in the trash. Waste of space, time and effort to bother with.

FIFA is the most boring game i have ever played. Got to legendary in a couple of weeks, theres about 5 points between bottom and top making it impossible NOT to get promoted.

Well, there is a lot of PES guys who don't care about editing...they just want to have the gameplay.
I've got the 2 games too.I think PES is great to play against human opponents because you can really show your skills but Fifa is the best when it goes about a realistic pack.
I play always against the CPU and on PC, so to me fifa06 is the winner and this year's version has a good gameplay in my opinion.
For the first time, you have to pass the ball a lot and try to play more like in real life
Fifa is going up and PES seems going down ( I think that PES 3 was the best)

@ Northern Canary
You should post in the fifa vs pes forum, the real place for the frustrated souls

yes i know but the original thread wasnt about Pro Evo. I bought FIFA because i didnt want to patch Pro Evo anymore but now i am willing to do it again for a proper footbal game. Back to the topic: who is bored of FIFA?

FIFA 2006 is the most unrealistic soccer game I've ever played

I may just buy back my FIFA 2005...it's gameplay was more realistic

Interesting thread tittle for an uninteresting thread, There are as many different play styles and tastes that you are going to get a whole array of different opinions. I prefer Fifa 2005 gameplay over Fifa06 and some people want Fifa to be even more to try to become a PES clone, it's like asking do you still like eating apples or do you prefer oranges?

I have it on PS2. I have been able to mod my PS2 version with the found hidden kits, changed AI, and Subs enabled.

I quit playing it for a few weeks after the intial non-stop playing since the release.

I started up again this past weekend and the game is fun. It can be frustrating and it can be great. Overall though it's just fun. It's better than 2005 and all the ones before it ON THE PS2.

I will say that if I was playing the regular PS2 game with no Subs and default AI I would have given up on the game completely long ago.

I actually don't dislike FIFA 06...but I don't like it either, and certaily don't fancy it as much as PES5. I play FIFA 06 really for the attributes Wolf described...for me it's for waiting in the cut for the patches to arrive for the licensing piece for PES...while I'm waiting, I play FIFA.

Played RTWC on 360 btw...a step back/throwaway launch title. Once again, energy on looks, not on play...will EA have to go through the entire learning curve again with the "next-gen"? And does that mean that what we've seen with FIFA 06 is as "sim" as they will allow a title that posters HERE even say HAS to remain "accessible" for little kids to go?

Odd that noone demands that Madden "arcade" itself up for the youth set...

Bottom line: PES, with all it's flaws, still produces more memorable gameplay MOMENTS for me than FIFA 06, more than any FIFA game has since RTWC 98...the difference this year is that I don't HATE FIFA 06...I just feel no passion for it. I still feel the passion for PES because of what happens and what I can MAKE happen on the pitch in the game.

The real question is : What are you expecting from the game ?
Do you want to have fun, do you want a challenge, do you want realism ?
and also on which platform do you play it...
Everyone of us is different so as Billy stated , there should be a load of different opinions.
Here is mine:The only thing I want to have is realism
First of all , I play fifa06 on the PC because the PC version allows never ending customisation of the game ( just for the record, I added more than 100 new teams last year, along with hundreds of 2gk kits etc etc...)
I also never plays online or with friends ( only against CPU )
I will NEVER buy a console because I would stick to the original EA version
The CC is on the making and this year too, it will be possible to make a lot of modifications.
The first thing I do is tweaking the configuration.( very easy to do on PC )
I set the cross assistance =0, put the referee strict, and increase the rate of injury .
I don't allow the CPU to make tactical changes because , the guys at EA have not understood that making tactical changes means changing the tactic. When the CPU makes tactical changes it replaces for ex. a striker by a defender BUT the defender will play forward which is a total joke.
That's why I want to have more injuries because then the substitutions made by the CPU are realistic ( above all you should allow 7 subs on the bench which cover all the subs possible )
I have also a little patch that I found , which allow the goal keeper to kick past the median line.
I have also change the zooming of the cameras so I can see a lot more of the ground ( I play mainly with the sideline camera ).
this way you have a better look and you can play a lot more like in real life ( diagonal crossings, long balls etc...etc... )
Now the level:
What I want is realism. I want to see a difference between players and teams. The only level that permits that ( in my opinion ) is the professionnal level. World class is not realistic ( I don't want to talk about the legendary level ) because the CPU scores too easily , you make a bad move and you have a goal against you .The 2 upper levels are for people who want to have a challenge
At the pro level, the CPU misses a lot of chances when you play against a " little " team. You really see a difference if you play against MU or some lower team.
I don't feel like modify the gameplay this year. I have seen the CPU make long shots, special moves etc...everything is there.
The big thing I did not like last year ( the gap in the middlefield ) is gone.
It is more difficult to break the middle but it is possible. all you need is to be patient and don't miss the opportunities.
last but not least, I play with a lot of different teams and make my own tournaments, so I am not bored.( I also edit a lot more than I play actually .)
I play 2 halves of 6 minutes each. The highest score I have had was a 6-0 but it happened just one time ( and the CPU was playing with 10 men only ). One thing I like very much this year too, is that it is possible to have real life scores when 2 lower teams play ( last year it was difficult to score a goal with a little team )
Fifa06 is more balanced in this area. Of course there are a lot of things that I miss ( I would like to have the tactical deepness and player positionning of PES in fifa ) but it's the best fifa so far IMO
