Official patch for PC version??

However, I can find no official word from EA on this patch, and it seems odd to upload the files to the download site and then not announce them. Perhaps they are waiting for patches for the other versions to become available via their delivery mechanisms, but I see no good reason to keep PC users waiting. Apply at your own peril!!

I've not yet plucked up the courage to patch my real copy of FIFA, but I have patched the test version that I have on my laptop, and the only thing to watch out for is that you need to have applied the roster patch first because both versions update config.dat. Just for the record, the following files are updated by the new patch:

data\cl.bin
config.dat
data\input\devdata.dat
data\cmn\fe\eng.db
fifa08.exe
Data\gui\gui.big

So no database changes, just language specific strings, and no updates to the roster file (PC_CL.BIN). I will blow half an hour or so later trying to figure out what has changed in the readily understood files (the first four, not the last two) and post my findings tomorrow evening.

As promised, the changes made by the patch, other than to the program itself and the GUI definitions:

• CL.BIN looks like some sort of internal version number (which has changed from 164924 to 165816)
• CONFIG.DAT has had a single line in SKU.INI changed (updating the PATCH_VERSION parameter)
• DEVDATA.DAT has an updated definition for the Saitek P2600 Rumble Force Pad
• ENG.DB has had one string added (texitd 748 = Save Match Replay) and one changed (textid 23551 to change the 'line-ups current as of ...' message to 25 Aug 2007)

Great Steve, many thanks. I wonder why they dont just launch the game a week later rather than using lineups from 25 Aug. Just use lineups from Sep 1 then you wont need any kind of major roster patch till January. Even so, looks like they didnt even bother doing that.

I still think games are more expensive than they should be, so I import mine from Thailand. Cost about £16 p&p included.

Here in Canada fifa 08 is going for about $40.00. But if I import it from the bestbuy in the US, including shipping and duty fees, it comes up to $32.00. How is that possible?

Still no excuse not to pay for a legitimate copy. If you want to test the game and make sure you like it and works fine, download it first just so you don't waste your money, but than go out and buy it if you're going to keep playing it.

The PC gaming industry needs all the support it can get at the moment.

I don't think so - although it was my first thought too - because the before and after values equate to 1 May 2034 and 9 Oct 2036!!

Not really. I've seen a couple of posts on the official UK forums suggesting that the changes are mostly DirectIP related (but that may just be the poster's area of interest) plus the addition of the save match replay option but I only installed onto a test system and I've not actually played any games with the patched version.

It is a good question but the first 'patch' provided the roster updates.

Your wrong mate, there is a problem with the NA version which is the one I need, but not all versions have a problem. I downloaded a torrent of the Nordic version till they sort the NA version. The patches are fine and I can still play online.
And no-body dare flame me for the torrent. I own the NA version of the game as I have made obvious.

No, i downloaded the Nordic game and applied the Nordic patch.
