Official Mexican League Thread: Apertura 2006

Thanks for the info guys. Btw I asked that about Monterrey cause from what I've heard northern Mexico is supposed to be much wealthier than southern Mexico, and since Monterrey is supposely a wealthy northern city I supposed the team would be quite rich. This was all a supposition since the same north - south contrast happens in Italy.

One other thing Atlas' is supposed to have one of the best youth systems in Mexico right? Like that young talent Guardado ?

Well, the wealthiest clubs on the league would be America and Cruz Azul.
Both from Mexico State, the center of Mexico.

There are only 3 teams in the league that can be consider "northern" right now, Trigres, Monterrey, and Santos Laguna. Both Tigres and Monterrey are what I would consider 2nd tier, when it comes to the wealth of the club, and Santos is definitely below them.

Other clubs from the north that have made it to Primera, like Dorados of Sinaloa, are very poor clubs.

The wealth in the league is more clearly distributed around the major cities of the country. This is because the price of entry into league is huge. You really need some serious backing to try to keep the club in primera for even just a season, not even thinking of trying to win anything at first.

For example, just look at the Gallos Blancos of Queretaro for this season.
They were running into trouble just to pay the 5 million?(I don't remember if this is correct), that would able them to ascent into primera.

This sadly, left them only with the choice of getting some loaned players to try and compete, but I really doubt they will, and I see them going down again right after their year is over.

Yeah, a lot of good players have come out of their youth setup. Oswaldo Sanchez, Jared Borgetti, Rafa Marquez, and Pavel Pardo are some of the most notable ones within the last decade and Guardado is just another one you can add on to that list.

Fucking America, they needed that golazo to salvage something from the game today. How I would love to see them crash and burn with all of that offensive talent they brought in this summer. :p

Hey Shiryu, how'd we look yesterday? I was out in LA and I didn't get a chance to watch the game.

IMO, in the MFL there's no such thing as "the best teams".

The league is just too competitive.

For example, One season you could have a completely unknown team, like Jaguares, San Luis, or Veracruz, that wins the league's first place, and have incredible seasons. This has happen many times.

Any of the big four could win the championship at any time, since they all have really great teams, but only two have managed to do so lately, America, and Toluca.

Then there are the, "that came out of nowhere" occasional surprises, like last years winner Pachuca. No one gave them a chance.

So, there are no "best teams", all teams have a good quality of play, and most have really strong squads, so any team could beat any other team, and any team could win the championship. That's why I love this league!

So just go for which ever style of play interest you most.

If every team in the mexican league has some chances of winning it, its not because the league is very competitive, its because the system. The playoffs thing its just too unpredictable.

And i consider Tigres a very rich club, c'mon CEMEX owns it .

On the other hand, the level difference between the first and second division (Primera and Primera A) its huge!! . Actually nobody cares about "Primera A" (Second Division), most of the clubs playing there are the "B" teams of the first division clubs . Plus only one team out of 18 gets relegated from first division. So the Primera A its actually more like a "Reserves" tournament. :nape:

Yeah, you're right, Tigres and Monterrey do have made some expensive pruchases lately.

Still, they're nowhere near America and Cruz Azul.

They could just buy the fracking league, if they wanted.... :fool:

The league is competitive, we have different league leaders every year.
Otherwise America would just blow over every team, which clearly isn't happening!.. :funny:

Well, better than Santos. :fool:

We did improve, abit...

De la Torre placed Maza on the left this time, and Magallon on the right, as to stop El "Pony" Ruiz. But it really didn't work, we just had a hole on the other side, and Magallon couldn't take El "Pony" anyway.

Our midfield still looks lost, Chato doesn't do anything at all!
Morales has lost his flare, he can't play 90 minutes anymore.
When Araujo came in we looked more complete.

Bravo, Medina, and Santana, had a party on the Santos defence.
I liked that, though since they're not very good finishers, we ended only with 3, instead of what should had been 5 or 6.

Bravo was the MOTM, good to see him back.

It is competitive , but its also very irregular. :boohoo:

One team can have an amizing game one weekend just to lose by a large margin the next weekend.

I think if Tigres and Monterrey wanted they could show off their wealth, cuz 2 of the most prominent mexican companies own them, but i guess they give them a limited budget so maybe thats why they not look as wealthy as America. And for Cruz Azul , sure they at the top 5 wealthier clubs but i think Chivas can make more expenses.

I think is something like this:

1) Tigres
2) America
3) Monterrey
4)Chivas (They have Vergara he is like the ultimate capitalist haha)
5)Cruz Azul

Toluca(Grupo Modelo a beer company, Corona's producer) is own by a pretty big company they reserver their budget a lot IMO , but it works!!

Definitely, Vergara has some cash to spend if he wants too. You know you have money when you own 3 teams (Chivas, Chivas USA, and Saprissa) and was also interested in buying Atletico de Madrid at one point (they weren't interested in selling).

Shiryu

Senior Squad
He was also interested in a Peruvian team, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, we barely spend any money on players, and when we do, we get like el chato in exchange for lollipop, or something.. :fool:

Toluca have the Maestro that is Gallego, you don't really need a big budget with him.
Had I the choice of buying a single striker, I never would had chosen Marioni, but see there's his genious, Marinoni fit so perfectly its unbelievable.

Shiryu

Senior Squad
The players I want to see with the NT:

Goalkeeper:
Guillermo Ochoa (America)

Defenders:
Diego Martinez (Chivas)
Carlos Medina (Atlas)
Edgar Dueñas (Toluca)
Joaquin Beltran (Necaxa)
Oscar Rojas (America)

Midfielders:
Patricio Araujo (Chivas)
Luis Perez (Monterrey)
"El Parejita" Lopez (Pumas)
Angel Reyna (San Luis)
Luis Alonso Sandoval (Veracruz)
Andres Guardado (Atlas)

Forwards:
Carlos Esquivel (Toluca)
Aldo De Nigris (Trigres)
Sergio Santana (Chivas)
Alberto Medina (Chivas)

So how exactly does the season go in Mexico, that's the one thing I never really understood? When does the league actually start and end, it always seems like you guys are playing down there..

Well, theres two tournaments. One in Spring called Clausura and another in

Fall called Apertura which is the current one in the moment.....

Yeah like Jimorisson said.

two tounaments at year. Clausura y Apertura.

18 teams first compete in a league system where the 18 teams play each other just once. The 18 teams are divided in three different groups ("Grupo 1", "Grupo 2" and "Grupo 3") each group has 6 teams.

Then when the 17 weeks are played, we have the "liguilla", like a playoff. In which the two best teams from each group classify to the "liguilla". The two best third teams from each group classify too.

So the playoff is made with the genaral table in wich the matches are:

1st place team vs 8th place team
2nd vs 7th
3rd vs 6th
4th vs 5th

Sometimes we have a thing called "repechaje" because sometimes the groups are too unbalanced, and maybe the leader of the "grupo 1" has less points than the third team of the "grupo 3" so a match is made in wich the winner classifys to playoff stage.

Then the playoff its made, with two teams facing each other like champions league. The only advantage of being first in the "league" its that you will face the 8th team and that if you tie in the overall score you still advance to next round.

Difficult ? :ewan:

Haha its so damn confiusin our system and so unfair but sooo entertaing, thats really the whole point of this weird system

Teh thing i hate is the relegation syste, it really sux and makes 1 "A" (2nd division) so uncompetitive, and help big teams so they never get relegated soo tey can have 2 or maybe 3 ****ty tournaments nad they willo not get relegated

El Diablo Rojo

Starting XI
Basically the season in Mexico starts now with Apertura(Which means "Overture" referring to the "overture" of the season). Kind of like it happens in Argentina instead of having 1 long tournament we have 2 short ones while the season follows the same schedule of the top european leagues aka: Season starts in the second half of one year and ends in the first half of the coming year. In Argentina there aren't play-offs though and teams aren't divided in groups.

i really like the mexican system cause not many leagues in the world have playoffs; and this is what makes so interesting until the end;for example its really boring seeing the serie A with juventus winning the scudetto 10 games before the league ends;its losses is meaning after a while lol;
anyways i never understand why make groups ; cause all the teams in the league play each other anyways;
