Personally, I take a less extreme approach than most when judging these games. Has to do with the fact I've been PC gaming since the late 1980s. I've seen them all in other words. They're just video games, that's all they are, and a person either has a bit of fun with them or not, whatever, and who besides one's self really cares anyway...
What we have this year are two very decent, very playable football games. Each is better than the other in specific areas. Neither game is shit and neither game is going to win GOTY in my world. I play both and switch back and forth between them, depending on the style of game I happen to feel like playing in that moment. 2014 = good year to be a football gamer.

Ok so I HAVE to play PES right now because my computer can't handle FIFA (new one coming in a month). I haven't played PES in 2 years, so I haven't had a grasp of the new control, but the gameplay as a whole is pretty enjoyable on a strategical level. Sadly that's the only thing good about the game.
_ Control: there are definitely things for FIFA to learn, such as the ability to fully control a teammate, and multiple one-two pass options, and especially the easy switch from auto to manual passing. But overall still much worse than FIFA, especially the input delay -it's unbearable.
_ Graphic: I'm not asking for FIFA 15 level of graphics, but at least make something comparable to FIFA 11? Seriously PES 15 looks worse than FIFA 09 even.
_ Animations: SOOOOOOO shitty. Worse than PES 6. Nothing else to say.
_ AI: I am just starting to play, but even the Superstar level doesn't really put much pressure on me. I play MU vs Chelsea and lost a man from min 3, but didn't feel the effect for the rest of the match. I am not saying it's easy to win in Superstar, mainly because it's incredibly hard to score even 1vs1, but I know that if I concentrate, CPU has no chance to score against me. Most of my matches went 0-0 or 1-0 or 1-1.
_ Overall gameplay. The flow of the gameplay is better than FIFA 14(default). I can't compare to 15 because I haven't played it yet. At -1 speed (second lowest) the game is already slower than FIFA at slow. Maybe playing with human who only picks Real/Barca will be different, but at least AI doesn't rambo down your defenders. Only in this sense PES is more of a simulation than FIFA; however, all the other aspects, especially shitty animations, completely crush the experience.

I don't get the animation comment, IMO the animations overall are much more lifelike than FIFA. Try this test for example: Pause both games, highlight the GK, and then playback the GK following the game play. In PES, the GK acts, reacts and walks about in a very realistic way. Something I get a laugh out of: people here (not you) bitch and moan that the CPU in FIFA never passes the ball around or back to the GK. They're forever asking Fidel or Paul to create a GP mod that will make the CPU play like that. In PES, that's how the CPU plays by default, amazing sim-like behavior and play buildup. In fact, in PES, the CPU passes the ball around and back to the GK so much that I've have had to EDIT THE GAMEPLAY to force the CPU start attacking more. Yet these same people then end up bitching about minor things like PES graphics etc. It's the same old crap around here every year, it's why I've given up posting editing advice, nobody is ever happy and all they do is complain. Yet they're all too bloody lazy to learn how to edit these games to fix some of these flaws.
