Newcastle Table 20 Million bid for Rooney

Everton officials have rejected a £20million offer from Premiership rivals Newcastle for teenage striker Wayne Rooney.
The England striker has been linked with a number of clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea in recent months.

But Newcastle today became the first club to make a concrete bid for the striker - and it was immediately turned down.

An Everton spokesman told the club website tonight: 'I can confirm that we have received a £20 million offer for Wayne Rooney from Newcastle.

'This bid has been turned down.'

I don't get this at all, Rooney is a good player but why the hell are Newcastle using the money from woodgate's transfer on a foreward when they already have 4 very good ones. They need a centre back, not a striker. I'm really confused about this. The only way I see it planning out is if they offer Bellamy and Dyer and like 25 million and get Rooney and Yobo in return but I think thats unlikely

I wouldnt be surprised if Rooney's deal to Manchester United has already been sealed.

IF this is true, I think United would of contacted Rooney's agent asking if he's intrested, he'd of said yes. But United would of said to Rooney to make sure there's a 20 Million get out clause in his new contract. Or a fee United are prepared to pay.

Then Rooney would have basically said to Everton 'i'll sign the new contract if there's a get out clause, and he'd name a price United have suggested.

Then they'll wait untill January and pay the get out clause fee. Or if Everton don't agree then they'd wait untill his current contract runs out. But I don't think they'd do that.

But this may not be true at all, but I think it's a possibility and Rooney could be a Manchester United player.

But who knows, just a maybe, or what I think might of happened.

A. Rooney isn't worth even half of Newcastle's bid.
B. He's chav scum, you don't want him.

Ronney is so goddamn overrated by the english media. I hope ManUtd never sign him. A player like David Bentley has the potential to be ten times better than Rooney imo.

i'm thinking he will go to either man united or chelsea

My goodness, what an earth-shattering observation.

HAHAHHAHA... that was nice.. anyways.. Rooney isnt that great..he had a good euro 2004, big deal, did he really do something big for Everton?? Newcastle is dumb.. they need a defender with real talent, like Eto'o, Samuel, Nesta, Campbell.. Somewhere in their standards

I agree. Eto'o is a very talented and prospective defender. He is very quick on his feet and has great technical ability.

Rooney is so overrated. Just like Owen.

20 million pounds for him is waaaaaaaaaay to expensive. He should go around 12 maybe, and thats only because he is young.

I mean seriously what do Everton want? A 30 million pound bid? A 40? With that sort of cash you could sign 5 or 6 quality players with money to spare.
