New ways to determine team ratings

On thing that's bugged me about FIFA is the way the "star ratings" for teams are calculated. EA clearly comes up with the rating they feel a team deserves, then rates players accordingly. Chelsea are clearly deserving of their 4.5 star rating. But it's not because all of their players are worthy of a 90+ rating. It's because of good coaching and good teamwork. EA makes the ludicrous decision that Real Madrid should be a 4.5 star team and ridiculously inflates the player ratings. What if the managers of clubs were given a rating, and this influences the teams? This could compensate for the fact that, for example, Bolton is better than Newcastle, because Bolton is managed by a genius and Newcastle is managed by a moron.

Also, what if team cohesion played a part? Right now the emphasis in career mode is to sell all your players and buy a handful of 4 or 5 star players. Clearly, Madrid has shown the failure of this strategy. What if keeping a team largely in tact, letting them get used to playing together, helped your team?

Any similar ideas?

They have it in NHL 2005 actually. It's called "team chemistry" I think. I wouldn't be surprised if they put something like that in FIFA.

How it works is it determines wich players naturally "go" together, so putting 3 players rated 92 right beside each-other may not work well if they supposedly don't complement each-other's abilities. You may have a 91, 92, and 93...but end up with a 77 rated first line. I hope you see what I mean.

that sounds good. it shifts away from the very statistical and rigid standpoint EA have taken with ratings and even gameplay and leans towards a more realistic view

You probably mean MVP Baseball 2005, they've got Team Chemistry also, Since the CL had coaches in game, it'll be nice iif they put Real Coaches, like Models of Mourinho, Rijkaard etc.

No trust me, I heard it was in NHL. But having it in two games is good, which means that there is a higher likelyhood of them implementing it in FIFA 2006.

It was definitely in NHL, i've played it many times, you have to mix and match your lines for the best chemistry. Also what should go into the rating is momentum, like say they are on a winning streak or just off a big win, their rating will go slightly up, team rating should also be out of a hundred.

Hey guys, just so you're aware the star rating for teams in FIFA is actually calculated by taking the overall attribute ratings (skill rating) of all players and then finding the average. The average is then converted into a star rating.

An example:

If the average of the skill levels of all players is 90+ the team gets 5 STARS
80+ 4.5 stars etc.

Team chemistry sounds like a good idea.

Yes, I was gonna suggest that TEAM CHEMISTRY be included in the Career mode. It's good in MVP, 'cause even if the teams doesn't have star players...winning makes the whole team better, therefor "team chemistry". Example: San Diego Padres

How about just better player rating's period. 1st they should average out the players ratings and that should be included in determining TEAM RATING. Example:

Helguera (84) Gravesen (85) Zidane (96) Beckham (90) = 88.75 Rating = 4.5 STARS

Average out the Midfield + Defense + Forwards...lets say the #'s are:
Defense= 87, 89, 87, 87 = 87.5 = 4.5 STARS
Forwards= 90, 92 = 5 STARS

...4.5. + 4.5 + 5.5 = 4.83 = 88.3 (team average) gives them 4.5 Team Rating.

fwww.

Here would be my Madrid team for next season.

GK- Casillas (95)
LB- R. Carlos (86)
CB- Samuel (90)
CB- Woody (85)
RB- Salgado (88)
CM- Gravesen (86)
RCM- Beckham (88) [Joaquin (91)]
LCM- Guti (86) [Robinho (87)]
CAM- Zidane (94)
CF- Raul (89) [Owen (92)]
ST- Ronaldo (93)

...pending on who we sign, our rating should be 4.5 Next Season. :)

did u no that u can make a 4.5 star team a 5 star team just but moving to the next team than back to it on the select screen sometimes it does it on the first but sometimes it takes a few tries.

i wonder why u can do that ? possibly a good game vs bad game?

In Madden 2005 they had the whole Moral system in place, so if you release a bad player then the other players wont play as good or if you sign on a player that doesnt want to be on your team he doesnt play good etc.. It goes the same way with winning and losing game and championships. I think in Fifa's career mode this should deff. be a huge plus.

Promotion and relegation should also have this effect on players I think.

Talking aboout relegation teams players i thiunk that players rated over 65 should be put in sale so the Relegated team dont get empty

I've you'd read the earlier posts you would have seen that it has already been implemented in EA's other games. So it's physically possible.
