New to FIFA

I am new to FIFA. I have a little trouble ingame and im very lost when playing the career mode. It seems everything has built off the previous versions which i havent played so i am out of the loop. The manual is worthless for a newcomer.
I know practice makes perfect but can anyone offer sites or threads that could help me along with career mode and/or gameplay.

I found a few tips and ticks threads by searching but they are rather old.

This site tends to focus more on the tweaking and editing side of things rather than the original EA supplied gameplay, so you might also find it worthwhile to take a look at the official EA UK forums

Thanks, I am checking out those forums too.
My main question is about player XP points in manager mode. Once my player gets 100 match XP they are spose to get skill upgrades right? I have had at least 6 players get there so far and i havent found an option to upgrade skills. The only thing i can find is the screen post match with old - change - new points. None of my guys have ever gained any skills there.

Any thoughts?

in manager mode you dont choose which skills get upgraded, it is natural but in be a pro mode you choose

Not always, and there is at least one bug that affects that area of the game. Rather than repeat information that I've posted elsewhere, I'll simply point you at this post on the official EA UK forums:

How does player growth and Match XP work?

PLEASE NOTE that there are three links in that post, one fairly obvious one on a line on its own and two buried in the final paragraph, however the default skin for the official EA UK forums does not distinguish hyperlinks until you mouse over them, so mouse over the whole post to find all of the relevant information.

It may also be worth pointing out that only the so-called 'Next Generation' (ie. PS3 and 360) versions allow you to assign skill points manually in manager mode (I believe, although I've never played those versions). Neither the PC nor the PS2 give you any immediate control over which attributes are increased, but if you select a player that has reached 100 XP during the last match and then select the Growth Information button then there are pages that show you exactly which attributes, both primary and secondary, have increased (if any)

Thanks for all the info. I have the PS2 version with the bug. I thought it was just me. I didnt think there was anyway a game now-a-days could have such a bad bug.

And to make it worse the bug existed in FIFA 07 and was left untouched for FIFA 08

If you go to www.gamepressure.com they have a really nice Fifa 08 Game guide. Maybe that will help!

But be careful because there are a fair few errors that may mislead the unwary
