Need some tactical advice

Hi all,

I've been playing FM2006 almost solidly for two weeks now, and I have somehow managed to take S****horpe United (English League One) into the Premiership in just 3 seasons due to some flukey signings.

What I need help on is deciding who plays where. I recently bought two fullbacks, Hosain Kaebi and Darijo Srna. My dilemma is that they can both play on the wings as well, Kaebi can play DR/AMR and Srna can play DL/R and AMR/L. The question is, do I play them both as fullbacks, wingers or a mix?

Here is my current setup:

Here are my fullbacks, Kaebi is the picture on the left, Srna on the right:

This guy is a dedicated right winger, but he doesn't seem to match up to either Kaebi or Srna. If I decide to play both of them as fullbacks, this guy will go right wing:

These are my alternative left backs. Meneses may look rubbish but he plays alright, if not brilliantly. Williams seems to be the same pretty much, alright but nothing special. They both usually get 6 or 7 ratings:

Sorry for the long-winded explanation, I just felt you'd be better able to help me if I was clear. My original plan when I bought Srna and Kaebi was to play Srna left back, Kaebi right back and Valencia on the right wing. Having further inspected their stats though, I wonder if one of them might play better on the wing, drop Valencia and play either Meneses or Williams in left back. I have no alternative right back since McNamee is injured for several months.

Sean Rose (see team overview shot) is an U18 player I called up during a particularly serious injury crisis, and shouldn't be considered a regular since he is, to be fair, rubbish.

Incidently, due to injuries, both Srna and Kaebi have spent time on the wing as well as fullback, and they seem to play well (consistent 8 and 9 ratings) in both positions, which is why it's so hard to decide.

Thanks for reading!

i'd put srna as a right midfielder and kaebi as a fullback, although he hasn't got great defensive skills, but i'd deffinitely put srna in midfield...good luck mate

btw, i love the fact that we can't say S****horpe

Thanks guys. I agree that Srna would be better on the wing, and my assistant manager agrees with that. I don't trust my assistant manager too much though, he keeps telling me to put my DR McNamee on left back, where he is "unconvincing". Silly man. I will probably try and get a new left back in the January window, perhaps getting rid of some of the players left over from my League One days to fund it.

Kaebi is a pretty good find, though he has one or two disciplinary issues (2 reds and a yellow in 11 appearences). I gave him a kick up the backside though and he accepted that he deserved my official warning, so with any luck he will kick the ball more often than the opponents in future.

I seem to have had quite a lot of luck with signings. I HIGHLY recommend Bosingwa (I found him in the Porto B squad though when I told my mate to get him, he wasn't in the game at all). He had an average rating of 8.40 when I finally lost him to Tottenham and he NEVER got a rating of less than 8 in any of the 35 games he played for me. Out of those 35 appearences, he got 12 man of the match awards. He is now doing exactly the same thing for Spurs, and is a regular in the "Premiership team of the week".

try vanden borre(although he will only be consistent a few seasons after the start of the game), or zaccardo:Bow:, miguel garcia works fine...and cicinho isn't too expensive. again, good luck

I tried Vanden Borre right at the start of the Summer transfer window and they refused to sell, his minimum release clause is well above my transfer budget as well :(

I will have a look at Zaccardo, Garcia and Cicinho though. Thanks :)

Oooh just beat a full-strength Man U 2-1. My team seems to perform best against stronger opposition, they held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw as well but then lost 3-1 to Norwich. Crazy!

players have a hidden stat that changes their approach at big games, for instance a lot of your players must have a high note in that stat, so they won against man u and draw against chelsea, but against norwich they didn't try that hard..i'm not saying that's all, though, you have to work hard as a coach to defeat man united and get a 2-2 against chelski with a team as s****(:p)horpe united..kudos
