NBA Live 2005 vs ESPN NBA 2k5

Recently I have bought both of these games, and tried them out to see which one I should stick to. After playing for several weeks, for some reason, NBA Live remains a much funner game to play. Although the graphics of NBA 2k5 are far superior, and when I say far, I mean a lot better, then that of EA's, NBA LIVE seems to remain superior in certain aspect. Driving to the lane is much easier, I just could never get the hang of NBA 2k5...plus charging is much too frequent in ESPN 2k5, and the shooting is way to easy in 2k5. While on the other hand, in NBA LIve, you have to time the shot and let it go off at the right moment. Another important aspect is the free-throw shooting which seems to be perfect in EA's game, I hope that they do not change this, while in 2k5, it takes a lot of effort to get the shot off. And finally, the overall sound of Live is much better than that of NBA 2k5. Although none is PERFECT, I just wish Live would have the graphics of NBA 2k5 but with its gameplay. What do you guys think?

2k series easily.

Live is easy, press a few buttons you are in the paint dunking regardless of who you are.

In 2k you need to work the ball around, etc.

Ok, thanks all for the comments, but there are two things that annoy me a lot about 2k5. One, for example, is the excessive charging calls and two is the excessive reach in calls. I find it a bit too difficult to get through defenders, when it should be a bit easier...

Muck around with the settings, there are some really good tweaks that make it even better.

1) To cut down on charges and reaches, stop charging and reaching in.

2) It's not easy to beat a defender in the NBA, but I still don't know what you mean because all you have to do is hit the crossover button and it goes into the "go by the man" animation and you go by your man every time.

1) But then, how do you block? Do you just stand in front of the man?

2) Ok, I'll try to see what you mean by that. Is there any website that has videos on how to do certain moves? Like in PES4, for example, there is a website called www.pesmoves.com...

Thanks for you help though...

1) Do you mean taking charge from an opponent ? Just stand in front of him and as your opponent doing a crossover or drives toward you with a dunk press triangle, if you mean blocking shots then press square when the opponent tries to lay up or shoots.

I`ve been playin` 2K5 for 7 seasons now, I really love the game but still I miss the full all star weekend feature which is available in NBA Live. Well, every game has its flaws . . .

Thanks for your help, I'll try that out, but what I was also referring to is how to steal the ball from the oponent without getting called for reach-ins...

One of the things that is difficult for me to adjust from NBA Live is how to drive to the basket....I would think that you would use both the right analog and left analog stick simultaneously, but It seems as if you first have to use the right analog stick first and then use r1 + left analog to run to the basket...maybe someone can help me with that? More often than not, I get called for charging....

When stealing the ball from your opponent, you need good timing, don`t try to steal when he`s posting you up by his back or when he`s holding the ball. Try to steal it when he`s dribbling the ball or after he make a pump fake. Also pressing triangle on the right moment when the opponent is doing an isomotion move will help to steal the ball.

When you`re tryin` to drive to the basket, use the right analog stick and move it right or left ( note that I use broadcast camera ). Movin` the right analog stick left-ward will move your character to spin around his marker and dribbles the ball with his left hand and vice-versa, so you need to know your character stronger hand ( altough for some really good players, it wont give too much differences ). As soon you get through your opponent press square for a lay-up or R1 + square for a dunk. Watch out, ussually someone else is ready to whack you when you get through your marker, so press square again in mid-air to adjust your shot or X to pass. And, when you see your opponent raising his both hand in the air, that meands he`s lookin` for a chargin` foul, quickly cancel your drive by pressing the right analog stick downward to prevent the foul. I think there`s also an in-game manual of tips and tricks in the options menu.
