Hidetoshi Nakata has to be considered as a trailblazer in Asian football, as he was one of the first players from that continent to have a successful career in Europe, winning titles and fans along the way. When I found out that he was going to retire from football altogether, I was somewhat suprised, but when I read why he decided to hang up the boots at a somewhat young age, I understood. Maybe he was burnt out, or maybe he wanted to begin a new chapter in his life outside of soccer, but one thing is for sure: any Asian player who follows in his footsteps will remember the indelible mark that Hidetoshi Nakata left on the game.
