I know this may cause a bit of a rift but to be perfectly honest i think that Fifa gameplay is what you make of it!
If played right, the gameplay can be pretty good. Of course there are still improvements. But football is an art form and can be played in many ways, using various formations!
Im sick and tired of people saying that Fifa is like playing pinball! Im sorry mates but Fifa gameplay is pretty realistic. I play fifa at a slow tempo, looking for passes and through balls. It actually works well and is a lot better style of gameplay!
EA sports cant give you good game play! Thats all down to yourself! Of course they need to give us the means to achieve good game play, which could still be improved slightly. (i.e more realistic off the ball runs by players and better passing models).
Fifa is a game which can be played in various styles. Just like in real life football. And as you practice with Fifa and try to implement real life situations you will realise that at times the gameplay isnt actually as bad as everyone makes it out to be!
Im sure most people will agree that Fifa is not like pinball in the slightest, but there is still quite a list of things that could be tweaked to give us the means of attaining better gameplay.
1. Better "scripted" off the ball runs. - IE when your player wid right has the ball, a central mid moves close for a short pass, one forward might drop off a bit, and your right back may overlap looking for space?
2. Better passing - i think this comes hand in hand with better runs. I cant speak for anyone else but i always liked it on actua soccer when you had those dotted lines which moved up in a kinda arch to pick out your shot. I think something like that would work well for passing. (however for people who dont like dots and lines on thier screen as it "ruins" the effect then obviously the graphical side can be turned off.
-- Non gamplay --
3. Offsides - A bit more inconsistency and longer playing time possibly. Like if i break through and im marginally offside, sometimes they might still play on. Or if i am blown up then i still have controll of the player for a few seconds.
4. Linesmen - I know this is a simple thing and i bet most have you havnt even noticed it. But the linesmen always follow the ball, when really they should be on the back lines of the defenders (watching for offsides), and the ref should follow the ball a bit more.
Umm there are more but i cant remember them at this moment
