MY Next-Gen Graphics for FIFA 08!

Hello mates! Hopefully you guys all know who I am, so an introduction wont ‘t be necessary. Along with making kits, I have also tried to find ways to ‘edit’ the player graphics to give the game a more ‘next-gen’ feel to it.

I for one, as I’m sure you’ll all agree, hate the ankle tape players have in FIFA 08. Why? Because it is unrealistic and it doesn’t even fit on the player’s legs right. It always seems to big. So I have modified it. Look at these SS (man I love my LA Galaxy kit!):

What I mainly did was make it smaller (like in real life and like in the NG versions of the game). And I also made it fit better around the player’s legs. Comments? If I get enough comments then I will put the o-file up for download ;)

Now for my REAL AWESOME GRAPHICS DISCOVERY THAT’S GUARANTEED TO GIVE A MORE ‘NEXT-GEN’ FEEL TO THE GAME. I actually discovered this a while back when I did it with FIFA 07, but I never managed to share with anybody. Since I am short on time I will briefly explain what I did. Have you ever noticed how when you are really zoomed in on a player, he looks very detailed? And as you zoom out, he loses all those wonderful details and becomes more ‘blocky’? Just look at the hands and boots. The more you zoom out, the blockier and worse they become.

Well I managed to preserve the perfect player details no matter how far away zoomed you are. This really creates a much more enjoyable experience while playing, as you almost feel as though you are playing with next-gen graphics. To show you guys, I have made some SS of how the players look BEFORE MY TRICK and AFTER MY TRICK. However in my opinion these SS do not show the real advantages of the trick. You have to PLAY with it to SEE it for yourselves.

Let’s look at Beckham:

BEFORE

AFTER (with the trick)

As you can see, BEFORE, the more you zoomed out the blockier the player came (look at hands and boots). AFTER, no matter how far away you zoomed, the player still kept all it’s details as if you were zoomed very close to him.

Trust me this trick really makes the game more appealing and the players look almost ‘next-gen’ like. I think it is the closest thing to next-gen graphics for the PC version.

Would you like to try this trick for yourself? Well, if you guys show me you want this trick and are interested in it, I will be more than happy to share it with you! :)

P.S. Yes, this trick will work for 08 and for 07!

So…comments?

P.S. Heh, I’m really sorry this post was so long…:p

It looks good... Would you be able to modify the shorts so that they arent so big around the legs? Possibly release something in competition with an un-tucked shirt patch/entirely updated player model...

Mate, you cannot radically change the player model because then the default template will not go well with the model anymore. You would have to pretty much make a unique template only for that edited model...

I've tried to give the model more features, like bring out the chest a bit more, modify the socks to show shinguards, but those changes are too drastic.

Please mates, give me your comments on this trick...I thought it would be a hit with people around here...

Even if you don't like it, say something...

To be honest, I can't really see a big difference on those screen shots. I think they are way too small. Or maybe it's because I have my monitor at a very high res and the images look really small.

But your work so far has been amazing so I don't think you would post anything like this is it wasn't true. I'm sure there is a noticible difference in the game, just not translating well in those screenshots (or in my monitor).

I for one would like to give your trick a try and see how it looks on my PC. I really like everything else you've done so I'm sure I would like this one as well.

The tape on the ankles looks really good though.

If you could post both the tape and the next gen trick, that would be great.

And I love you galaxy kit as well. Always play with LA Galaxy just to admire that kit!

Keep up the good work!

well i like that modified ankle tape :) and yeah like other people said, i am hardly to see any big difference there too. Interista13 may be you would like to show us better images for comparison then? :bob: and thanks for that l.a galaxy kits... i have import all your kits into my game honestly :p

It's just modifying some settings in the pc_cfg_h.ini aka the LOD settings, use search this was already done in the Fifa 2005 period, back then you needed a fast computer else the framerate would become blocky. I thought this was common knowledge. You "rediscovered" something that has been for years.

Elhelmiey,

Please let me know. I really really want it!

i use this turfs pack. it's not mine but i just re uploaded the file. all the credits are belong to the author.
DOWNLOAD HERE!

and now i also install the Moonraker's turfs pack without removing the first turfs pack that i used before :p there's no conflict(s) between the files and the game works just fine.

Interista i know that you´re trying make mate, but i think there is a patch by some guyu, i don´t recall right now, that does this, the problem with that patch is that is only for high end pec, the catch would be to achive an effect alike in low end pc.

First of all, I want to thank all of you for replying and showing interest in this trick. I will try to make you guys see the differences more clearly now…

I agree, those pictures didn’t really show a BIG difference, since I said in that post:

so I don’t mind that many of you couldn’t see a drastic difference. Like I said, to SEE it, you must PLAY with it.

But anyway, let me explain now.

Ok, so, the player model is governed by 4 main player o-models. As you zoom out on the player, each o-model has a specific range in which it will work in. Seeing some SS will help make this clearer:

The first is the m200 model, the clearest and most detailed model. This is the model the player takes when you are the closest zoomed up to him. As you zoom out, the model m232 (2nd pic) takes over. Compared to m200, this model is more blocky, so the player will become more blocky. The 3rd pic is m242, and even blockier model. If you zoom out even more, this is how the player will look (blah!) And finally, the last pic is the m243 model the farthest model of the player. I don’t know about you, but players look horrible with that model in my opinion. That is why when you are playing the players look a bit like blocks. You can see this for yourselves. Find a player and zoom out on him, and look at how his shape changes (mainly the hands and boots).

Another example of this are face models. Have you wondered why the face becomes weird on a player as you zoom out? For example why does Van der Sar have long hair from far away? It’s because each face has a near and far model (same with balls). Well, it’s the same with players too.

Now, what I did is I took the m200 and replaced the other 3 models with it, so I basically had 4 m200 models. That meant that no matter how far away zoomed you are, the player will keep all of his details as if you were looking very close at him. You can’t really see it in the SS because the SS are small, and the players are far away…

I tried today to take better SS, and hopefully they are a bit better. So, let’s see the differences in game!

These 5 pics are of one player with the default player models. In the first 2, he is very detailed. His hands are nice, and the boots have studs. By zooming out a little bit (the 3rd pic), we see the player get more blocky. The hands become squares, and the boots become triangles. By zooming out even more (pics 4 and 5) we see the player is made up of basic shapes. He’s lost all the details he had before. I made 2 pics to show you guys the shorts, since they’ve become more ‘blocky’.

Interista13

Starting XI
Now, here are 3 pics with my trick:

The first pic is when we are zoomed in the closest. The player has all his details. If we zoom out a bit more (pic 2) we see for example the hands and boots keep their details. They don’t become squares and triangles. It’s a bit hard to see since the SS is a bit small. Anyway, by zooming out a bit further, we can see the player still keeps his details, he doesn’t get more blocky. Look at the shorts. Compare with pics 4 and 5 that I talked about before. Do the shorts look now like they did?

Hopefully you guys can see some differences now. These may not be the best SS, but they help a bit more, IMO.

ULTRA, DAVIDMENDE, mates, there may be patches that do this same thing, but I have no idea what they are. Maybe others found this trick out before me, and if so, good for them! :)

Caseira: Your patch seems very similar to what I’ve done, but I can’t really tell. To me it looks like you just sharpened the shadows. But if this patch is like my trick, and nice job! :)

FINALLY, I have one request. May I please ask some of you to help me? Because I noticed that when using my trick, as I zoom out on a player his left short sleeve changes into a long sleeve. Look at the 3rd pic with my trick. Does anyone know why this is? Can anyone help me in trying to fix it please?

So…comments? I agree, this may not make RADICAL changes in graphics, but it makes some little improvements…which is better than nothing...

---EDIT---

Mates, I’ve tried out patch made by Caseira, and I have to say it has the exact same effects as my ‘trick’. So, kudos to you mate! Excellent job! (Just so you know, the first download link you put expired, only the second one works now…)

I pretty much found the same thing except I found it in a much harder way (typical of me). He found the same trick just by changing a few files.

So, I recommend you download his patch! It is AWESOME!! Try it out guys, it works for FIFA 08 full version also! I think it really makes the game much more enjoyable to play since you won’t have blocks running around anymore, but actual, detailed players! However, keep the old files, so if you don’t like the game with the patch, you can just delete the patch files and put the original files back in! ;)

P.S. Caseira, what can I change in the files so that I can get the original player shadows? I don't really like the new shadows...

So, let’s go back to my ankle tape:

Here are 2 more SS:

So do you guys like it? Would you want it?
