well, you're paying some of that 5k for the badge, obviously.. I have driven it for something like 100 miles, thanks to 50/50 weight distribution and run flat 17" wheels it really drives like it's on rails, very easy to drive it on limit.. but overall quality, I'm not so sure.. most of the things you touch has a cheap feel.. it's not exactly like a golf VI.. And it is cramped as hell for me.. you'll love it with your gf but someone with the same gender sitting next to you, hell no (Sir_Didier_Drogba would love it though)..

also I've heard the same negative feedback about the mazda 3 series, but not tried it myself..

just go for the one that holds its value better.. we're young, we get bored quick and you'll need that return money..

Theodorakis so you're basically a car fanatic, which is perfectly fine. I just wanted to ask if you own a superbike as well? The people i know and are similar to that (spend a lot of time in their garage), they necessarily don't need it, but it's another hobby for them. Just curious.

Oh i see. But yeah those bikes can be pretty dangerous when you're being irresponsible. I know two people who've had pretty horrible accidents, but that hasn't stopped them. At high speed obviously.

In a perfect world i'd like to own one, but knowing me it probably wouldn't end so good. :P

I've heard the same about the Mazda. also, noise seems to be a big issue on forums, might be cause of the tires though. did some research and got other bad news though: the top spec doesn't have navi, it's a 500 quid option that you can get on the top three trims. which means the top spec, which is worth 2.5k, only adds leather seats, lane departure assistant, adaptive headlights, power seats and a fancier cruise control. that's too much imo.

I can't stand Golfs, especially the interiors, most of the VAG group seems lacking in that aspect. was looking at the new Leon too but it was entering the Mazda price range once I specced it and just didn't seem to worth it. most compacts have hard touch plastic but I wasn't expecting the BMW to have them too.

edit: never owned a RWD so that's why I'm so interested in the Beem'. can't see myself paying 30k for a car that small, buying an used one might be an option though it's usually a lottery. most BMWs I see here are at least 5 years old and either going on 200k miles or just not getting proper servicing cause they sound shite, especially the diesels. I reckon maintenance shouldn't be too bad for a model with 40-50k miles on it, seeing as our family has 3 Toyotas (plus 2 more at work) and most Japanese cars are kind of exotic here when it comes to services (can't find a decent private one here, mostly have to go to Toyota or Honda dealerships) or parts (my father had to wait a full month for some parts for his hydraulic suspension on his Land Cruiser which came all the way from Japan, don't think that would happen in the US) but luckily they don't need to be in the shop that often.

I've narrowed it down and in line with the type of car I'm looking for these are where I see my options: all cars will be a 2011-2013 model, depending on location, price, mileage, availability, etc.

1) Honda Civic Coupe
2) Honda Accord Coupe
3) Nissan Altima Coupe
4) Scion FR-S

Got a year anyway, just dreaming for now. All of them are sporty while still being a legitimate car for a serious professional. The thing I don't want to do is look like I'm trying to make up for a small dick.

The second one looks nice. That's what i would choose if all those four would be your options. But if you're looking for something classy get an Audi S8, older version like this. Probably my favourite car, but it all comes down to personal preference and people are different.

I have a couple issues with Audis and other European higher brand cars

1) High maintenance costs
2) I'll have to buy an older car that is out of warranty
3) Older cars have higher mileage which raises maintenance costs even further

If the decision is between a 2013 Accord and a 2003 Audi it isn't really a choice IMO.

Saw an FR-S in the wild today and it looked sweet; the guy riding with me is actually the one who pointed it out and I hadn't even told him I was looking at cars. My only issue with it is the rear wheel drive: if I move up north after the army that is going to be really tough to tolerate in the snow.

Oh okay, yeah i knew you'd say something like that. As i would have. I was just suggesting out my favourite car which is kind of old (the model).

Rear wheel drive and front wheel drive both have their pros and cons in the snow.

Rear wheel drive can easily spin, front wheel drive can very easily understeer.

I don't imagine a Civic is that ridiculously powerful that it would cause too many issues if you're not too hard on the throttle.

The problems are getting stuck in the snow and spinning out. Back home no one buys rear wheel drive cars because they're seen as completely unreliable before the plows hit the streets.

same thing here to be fair, everyone's afraid of rear wheel drive cause winters are pretty rough yet I've seen people with FWD get stuck too. get good winter tires, and with most cars having traction control now it shouldn't be that much of an issue. if snow is that big you'd get stuck with both. just be careful with your revs so you don't break traction and avoid hitting the brakes as much as possible I guess.

edit: also that FR-S has really small ground clearance. it might as well be a front wheel drive and you still won't do shit on snow with it. my 2 cents.

This.

In fact, with rear wheel drives breaking should be less of an issue than front. It's upping the revs that causes the issue with RWD. But FWD have the issues breaking.

With traction control, ABS and good winter tyres (NOT all season - which are essentially no season) it shouldn't be a major issue in a modern RWD car...Unless you go crazy on the revs.

not every season, you buy two tire sets that last you for three to four years. I have mine on different rims so I just replace the wheels come winter. a small investment when you compare it to buying a car. having winter tires is mandatory here since winters are pretty awful.

if winters are that bad there that you're considering a FWD against a RWD, why not get the latter and a set of snow tires? front wheel drive will be just as useless with all-seasons on heavy snow. though if you think they're gonna cut it, go with them. I'm not familiar with the weather there.

edit: just saw your car choice again. why are all the good Asian cars only available to the US? we don't get all the good stuff here in Europe. there's no Camry here, no Avalon, no Altima, no Maxima, no Hyundai Genesis, etc. in fact, there's not a single sedan Nissan that you can buy here. it's either small city cars or small SUVs. weird. probably cause of the German three I reckon.

The Genesis is a badass little bitch. I might add that to the list. I had taken it off because of RWD, but maybe I'll consider your idea.

My guess on the car choices you have is that it is mainly due to the significantly higher fuel prices which drive the other vehicles out of the market. Most people just prefer a smaller car because it won't send them to the poor house.
