it would be cool if that meant players retire.
i read somewhere ... i honestly cant remember but i read that they adapted a similiar objective system as NBA live 2003 where at the end of the playoffs (obviously fifa wont have playoffs) you have 8 things you have to do before the new season will commence

Sign contracts
Release and transfer players
Draft (in nba)
organise friendlies ..ect
along those lines ...
it has retiring players.. if you can go 20 seasons in a row how are you going to have david seaman play til he is 60 ? (H)

Although I am not certain that player retirement is in (I'll find out soon), I agree this would be a very cool feature. Especially if you played 10 consecutive seasons... by which time the entire EPL will basically be full of players we have never heard of today.

Yeah agree with you there matt would be great to see some new
faces created by the computer that is ofcourse if player skills do make alots of difference.

Can someone tell me what automated contract really stands for.

Does it mean that we wont be able to offer contracts and the players will be offered contracts automatically by the computer.

They had the aging/improving feature in the NHL series already a couple of years back. Old players would retire, and others would improve. They had a rate of improvement for each player, I remeber having one bad but young player improve from something like 67 to 75 in a single season because I played him on power play.
NHL has done so many things before FIFA in its games, and I can't understand why the developers of the two games can't work together. They had realistic trading ages ago, and the AI performances and scorers were always realistic, since my years on Megadrive. A couple of years ago in FIFA the top scorer tables were usually inhabited by Martin Keown, David May and the reserve goalkeeper of Charlton.
NHL also had young players (probably just made up) spring up from each entry draft onto the team. I can see that in a couple of years you can go buy youngsters from Bulgaria in FIFA, and then see them improve into superstars in your Premiership team.

I thought of a good idea for a future career mode. The "improvement potential" of a player could be a hidden stat, and you could hire scouts to go to specific leagues and then help you find a talented prospect. Of course, the scout could be wrong, but then again, you could get a youngster from the Finnish League with a minute fraction of Raul's price just to see him improve to be a new Raul.

I simmed the first season of Franchise Mode in Madden 2004 a couple of days ago and the players in that game aged and retired. One of my kick returners suffered a career ending injury. At the end of the season there are different screens you go through to get ready for the next season. You can view your retired players, sign your free agents, scout players for the draft (2 or 3 screens, can scout 15 players each time to build reports) and then sign your draft picks and free agents. There are management screens for team finances (ticket prices, concessions, etc) and stadium expansion/construction. You can take 9 players through "pre-season" every year where you test them in one of the mini-camp drills. If you score enough points you get skills points to assign to the player who went through the drill. After completing mini-camp you go on to the 4 pre-season games and at it's completion you're shown which players improved during the course of pre-season.

I really hope that FIFA 04 has a "Mini-Camp"-like game mode because it provides great practice and they could probably implement some really varied exercises.

If FIFA 04 franchise mode is anything like Madden's, you folks will have a good time.

Ea wont do that in it's First FIFA game with career mode .. they have 2 soccer games "TCM" and "FiFa" so if they put every thing in FIFA nobody will buy TCM ... so we are waiting for the next versions like 2005 or 06 or maybe 2010 ... so maybe they will put the 2 games in 1 game .. but imagin how many cd's will it be
