Morale - What's going on???

Youth Team
I'm in my first career on Xbox version with Nottingham Forest. My morale issues have been mainly confined to the midfield players and a couple defensive players who have floated anywhere from the 20s to mid 40s.

At the beginning of the season the whole team's fitness was terrible. Add to that I was experimenting with the formation and rotating players. Upgrading the physio, midfield coach and resting players helped get the fitness up but it did take a while before I finally got everybody in the green.

Despite sucess on the field, good fitness and consistent rotation playing time the midfielders still have the worst morale. My strikers/attacking CF are in the 80s and as high as 99 (my captain). My defenders are the same with alternate CB captain at 99 as well. I'm guessing clean sheets are boosting their morale.

Try experimenting with your formation and tactics and play the players at their desired position for a few games. They may just not like the style of play or haven't adjusted yet.

Also try changing the captain... maybe they're just not responding and need more motivation.

Usually a new contract followed my some playing time and success on the field will raise the morale some.

Only thing I can figure is my midfielders don't like being rotated but have to for fitness, especially the wingers. Also more successful pass rates, crossing and possesion might boost them.

So where can I find the ini files you mentioned?
The versions in the game as delivered are buried in the CONFIG.DAT file and you'll need a utility to read and extract those (File Master 06 works, but I believe there are others). The CAREER.INI is the one you are going to be interested in.

And does it mean I shouldn't sprint?
That is entirely up to you and your playing style. I'm finding that I don't play any worse not using the sprint button (other than occasionally to get/keep one of my strikers in the clear) so I've chosen to forego that technique in order to help keep my players from getting quite so fatigued. As you say though it doesn't make a vast difference.
