that's one of the crappiest and most uninteresting movies I've ever seen

I agree, totally awful. Really, really dull, poorly directed, bad acting and Mercutio as a cross dresser? I dont think so. I'm all for making Shakespeare more accessible, but when this is the kinda sh!t you get I'd rather it stayed on the stage.

Watched that too at school. Very dull. The way they combined modern setting with the old english is just crap.

i didn't mind it

the final death scene is done well, and the opening "sword" fight is good too

a real butchering of shakespeare is the movie "O", which is based on Othello, but portrays it in a basketball setting

I actually disagree with most of you guys. I loved this movie.

Ive never seen the original or anything done before, but I understand what Baz Luhrmann tried to do with the modern day changes and I liked it.
and the love story is what makes me love the movie, Leo and Claire Danes were awesome (Y)

I hate Shakespeare anyway. I rather poke holes into myself with a rusty fork than read/watch/listen anything related to Shakespear.

I think Shakespeare is fantastic lol. Studying his plays in class is a real drag, infact reading them is sometimes pretty dull but they are plays and therefore meant to be seen at the theatre, hence I love watching them performed. I saw a performance of Othello in London recently starring Anthony Shear and it blew me away, incredible piece of theatre better than most films I have ever seen. Plus, you can't argue that the man was a total genius.

i like shakespears, his plays r really good, but the thing i hate is that at the end of his plays the hero always dies, like in othello.

that's the whole point, it is the tragic demise of a hero,

along with everything else, it had to finish with his death

the classic Romeo and Juliet the movie had boobies in it.

this one doesn't. and it was just confusing. creative idea though I might add.

I know what you mean, I do sometimes wish he hadnt written so many tragedies and that some of them had happy endings, though most of the time I want the villains to come out on top, I was really cool with Othello and Desdemona dying but I was more pissed off when Iago got caught.

but in most of the movies villans r caught, dont they:confused: . othello was a good one, especially the scene in the bedroom and many other when othello dreams of cassio and desdemona (H) and iago was hell of a smart villan, but why he was acting like gay.

Yeah, Othello is probably my favourite Shakespeare play. I love Iago too, as I said before I once saw him played by Anthony Shear and by god he was magnificant. When I was in year 10, one of the assignments was to write a scene to cover one thing that isnt covered in the play, so me and a mate wrote one for when Brabantio dies, and it was late actually published in a GCSE version of Othello.

As for Iago being gay, he definately isnt, in those days it was quite natural for men (and women) to share beds, most families did it, and the only reason he despises his wife so much is because she is the only character in the play who is as intelligent as he is.
