MLS Thread 2007

I'm all for expansion but they need to be careful where they expand to, and don't make the same mistakes that the NASL did by over expanding into non-viable markets that just couldn't support a franchise in the long run. Not to sound biased or anything but Toronto was the idea place for a new team and it clearly shows.

To me, Montreal would be the best place for MLS to go to next, the fan support there for soccer is argueably stronger than even Toronto. I've read rumours on the net before about MLS considering places like St. Louis and Detroit for possible future location which is cause for worry... I mean, Detroit!? If you've ever been there you can clearly tell it's in no way a soccer town.

My guess is Philadelphia, Cleveland or Seattle will be the next American cities to get a team. There really must be something wrong in Rochester for them to not have a team by now.

I was skeptical of Toronto at first, but it's proven to be a good choice, so I wouldn't mind Montreal getting a franchise. However, will they be sponsored by the Bank of Toronto? :D

well Ny is planing to get a second team so i wouldn't be surprised at all. The question is how in the blue hell does this team fall into pace if the Red Bulls attendance is second to last in the league? :9

That's ridiculous... NY is a weird place. I mean it's full of immigrants and people of different ethnic backgrounds, but no one goes to their games.

Toronto, which is probably the most multi-ethnic city in the world was an ideal market for a team. At the games you have people from everywhere. I've seen jersies and hats from Italy, Portugal, Greece, France, England, Croatia, Germany, Scotland, Ireland, Mexico, Argentina, El Salvador and a many many more.

Montreal would probably do alright...

Rochester makes money in the USL, can't really blame them for not wanting to throw out a huge expansion fee and lose money for awhile.

Rochester isnt' exactly a major league city. For the league to have a major league image you have to go to a city that gives that type of image and Rochester isn't one of those cities.

only in Ohio can a 2-2 game in the 55th minute seem so damn boring (H) the announcers on CBC don't help at all either, seems like they just found some random British guy on the street and told him to start talking about soccer. that and the atmosphere sucks. great goals from TFC away from home, Dichio with an amazing first-time finish from well outside the box and Brennan scorches a free-kick from ~35yds :o

ahhh Cunningham just missed by a fraction of an inch!! not the same TFC team we saw in the first 3 away games, that's for damn sure. and I swear our small group of away supporters is louder than the entire city of Columbus combined. you suck, Brian. come give me a bjmenge

PS: stating the obvious but Welsh is the worst player ever.

Brennan's goal was Roberto Carlos-esque! Cunny and Dichio are gonna be a great attacking pair up front in time, impressed with Cunningham's speed..

I think I was starting to get used to the atmosphere at BMO Field and forgot that it's not like that everywhere else in MLS, today's game almost felt like I was watching a pick-up game at the YMCA at times.

Yeah, Welsh is poo.

i disagree, detroit would be a possible candidate for the mls. large immigrant population, its a sports town. plus. if they played somewhere downtown it be good for the city core for people to come down from the suburbs. also, i know there is a lotttttt of soccer fans in windsor. id cross the border to go see toronto fc. id cheer for detroit too, the automotive working class towns of windsor and deroit vs. the yuppies in toronto....just kidding, i like TO. ive been there a lot of time. great place.

Arena will take us to the promise land this season and NY will finally be KING!!!

NY will make the playoffs and exit the same way they exited the Open Cup, early.

I'd just like to point out that Angel is SCORCHING hot right now! He added to his total (6 now) tonight with two goals to beat TFC.

oh and I can't believe nobody brought this thread back to discuss EJ's back to back hattricks (Y)(Y)(Y)

Angel ownz you Carlos (H)

Great second half. The first half the tema from Toronto was clearly the better side but in the second we totally dominated and Angels performance was A+. He is such a great striker and has adapted majestically to this league.
