Run man, do you know how the seeding system will work? Will they decide 1-8 based on the best point totals and if yes what are the tie-breakers?

I heard that few weeks ago there was a a poll in the MLS site that said something like "Which world class player would you like to see in the MLS?" the 3 options were: Beckham, Ronaldo and Figo, apparently Beckham was winning with a good difference over the other 2. Wonder how much influence did that have with Beckham's transfer.:o

Also look this thing available now at Subside Sports.

They know their business.(H)

maybe they shud start to sell becks' action figure too..:mrpimp:

What about them?

Does anyone know the answer to my question? Shifty seems to have taken some time off.

The 2 division champions, the rest are done by single table.

One bracket, so 2 teams from the same division could meet in the final.

So ok, let's say the season goes something like this:

EAST
1 - DC United - 60 points
2 - New England Revolution - 55 points
3 - Columbus Crew - 45 points
4 - Toronto FC - 40 points
5 - Kansas City Wizards - 25 points
6 - Chicago Fire - 20 points
7 - New York Red Bulls - 20 points

WEST
1 - Los Angeles Galaxy - 61 points
2 - Houston Dynamo - 60 points
3 - FC Dallas - 50 points
4 - Chivas USA - 39 points
5 - Colorado Rapids - 30 points
6 - Real Salt Lake - 19 points

The seeding would be like this:
1 - Los Angeles Galaxy (conference champs 61 points)
2 - DC United (conference champs 60 points)
3 - Houston Dynamo (60 points)
4 - New England Revolution (55 points)
5 - FC Dallas (50 points)
6 - Columbus Crew (45 points)
7 - Toronto FC (40 points)
8 - Chivas USA (39 points)

Which means the bracket would look like this:

[1] Los Angeles Galaxy
[8] Chivas USA

[4] New England Revolution
[5] FC Dallas

[3] Houston Dynamo
[6] Columbus Crew

[2] DC United
[7] Toronto FC

Is that about right?

PS: It's probably impossible for the point totals I made to happen (not enough points in play or something) but I just did it real quick as an example, and by the way this example doesn't express my views of the MLS in any way (yes I have a disclaimer, as if there's any angry MLS fans to get me...)

Meh, I'm underpaid.

I hate to shatter the belief that I'm omniscient within the sphere of US soccer, but I don't know the answer to this one. I would assume the tiebraker will be the same as always - head-to-head, then goal differential, goals scored and if they're still tied, whichever team's name ends with "C United" or "A Galaxy" advances.

However, as to how the seeding will go, I'm not sure. I'm not even sure that MLS has explained that part yet. Oddly enough I can't find anything on BigSoccer about the playoff format, but they do have twenty different threads about Beckham's impact on attendance/sponsorship money/TV ratings/SportsCenter coverage/quality of play/Landon Donovan/Santino Quaranta/Nate Jaqua/season ticket sales/reputation of MLS abroad/celebrities attending MLS games/youth players in the LA metro area/other big-time players deciding to come to MLS/the SuperLiga/Scientology/global warming/world poverty, and a separate thread every time Terry Cooke/Owen Hargreaves/Ramon Calderon/Milan Mandaric/Hugh Hefner/Jim Rome says something about Beckham.

I'm not exaggerating when I say twenty though. Actually, there's more than that. Much more.

The question is what happens if the third-placed West team has a better record than the second-placed East team. Is the West team seeded higher? Or do the top two teams from each conference automatically get the top 4 seeds?

I have a friend with connections in NASCAR.

He says ESPN is considering letting Rusty Wallace sit in the booth for a few MLS matches this season because one of his kids plays or something.

Man, I hope he's wrong.

I was suprised they only have a new team for 2007. I was expecting another team for 2007 also.

Claudio Reyna has now joined the alleged "superclub". I will now laugh my ass off.

Why that reaction? I think it's great for a player like Reyna to come back to the MLS and teach the young guys a thing or two.

I think it was the "superclub" that was so funny... that's gotta be an Alexei Lalas quote?

On another note, the MLS rumour machine is going non-stop these days it seems. Everytime I read stuff on the net or tv it seems there's another big name player in "talks" with MLS.. I'm hearing names like Edgar Davids, Robbie Fowler, Jan Koller, Raul, Oliver Kahn, Jimmy Hasselbaink... I swear all it would take is for a small handful of well-kowns to join MLS and it would start a major popularity surge for this league. Let's keep our fingers crossed...

Hey run, is it true there a couple former U-20 US players in the Mexican league? Sonny Guadarrama and Sammy Ochoa ring a bell?

Ochoa is a former U-20. He started at forward for us in the last U-20 World Cup. I didn't think he was anything special, but neither were half of our starters in that tournament. I'm curious to see how his career pans out though.

Guadarrama is eligible to play for the US this year in Canada. He has been called up to both US U-20 and Mexico U-20 camps but is not yet cap-tied to either country. He wasn't part of the US qualifying squad, so he's either chosen Mexico or he's not good enough, or Santos wouldn't let him go.
