MLS Cup 2006 [R] (AKA: The Worst Feeling In the World

Avalanche

Senior Squad
11 years. That's how long I've waited for the New England Revolution to win MLS Cup. I have had to put up with heartbreak year after year. A quick recap:

2002: Los Angeles beats us via a Carlos Ruiz golden goal.
2003: Chicago puts us out with another golden goal, courtesy of Chris Armas.
2004: DC United eliminates us on penalties.
2005: LA puts us to the sword in MLS Cup again, this time by another Guatemalan, named Guillermo F*cking Rodríguez.

I thought to myself "this year's gonna be different, we're finally gonna win a trophy". Taylor Twellman thought the same when he scored in the second half of extra-time. It felt as if I was on top of the world. I even screamed at the TV "THERE'S YOUR F*CKING BOY, BRUCE!", an obvious reference to Twellman being snubbed by Bruce Arena, who was at the match as a color commentator. Then came a moment that can be best described as soul-shattering. Houston equalised. Brian Ching headed the ball past Matt Reis, and the hand that we had placed on MLS Cup was then cruelly pried off. Then it was on to penalties, which I don't even want to talk about. Every f*cking year, I believe that this would be the year the Revs bring home MLS Cup. Instead, we keep falling at the last or next-to-last hurdle as we keep finding new ways to blow it in big matches. Yesterday was just too much to bear. As for next season, it will be a rebuilding job as at least three of our best players will be sold to European clubs. We are now officially the most cursed team in America, possibly even the world. No one gets so close, only to piss it away when the silverware is within sight.

HAHAHA...the beauty of the playoff system! Isn't it great? Regular season means **** all because the lame playoffs mean everything! MLS 2007 is going to be another sham with Toronto FC coming into the fray and the stupid fixturing they have set up.

Don't worry... The Australian A-League is like that also... regular season means very little...finals mean everything.

Hey Toronto FC is actually a great thing for the league, regardless if the next season will be confusing (Its not really confusing: The top 2 teams from each conference qualify .........and the other 4 are determined by a "full table" system (IE: Exactly how the NBA has been working for so many years).

The reason for the odd fixture next year is cause of 5 (count them) cups going on at the same time: The Gold Cup, Copa America <which America will send 2 teams to........which is incredibly wierd>, The US open Cup in the mid week AND the new "Mexico-USA club championship" to be played that summer.................<<<<Also the Canada Youth World Cup will take some of the star youths from USA>>>>

It's not Toronto's fault at all. In fact, I've never seen so much excitement over a new team in Toronto <it's incredible>. This team could be one of the most passionate teams in MLS history, and yet the fact that some people see this as a "bad thing" just shows how little they know about the leagues or cities themselves.

((just like a bud of mine who thinks "Rochester would suck" at the MLS. Rochester is Soccer city USA..............I wouldnt mind having 1 season of "odd games" if they were to come, cause it would help things alot in the lon run.))

Did i say that Toronto FC is a bad thing?..........No, it's fine learn 2 read

all i am saying is that the legue should of expanded to 14.... i hate odd amounts! lol

sooner or later the MLS will realise that a single table is the way to go. They are slowly realising this after the new playoff criteria for 2007.

oh yeah I agree. It's done wonders for the J-League (but their "2 season" thing was always horrible and rarely works when you have a final to decide things. In Argentina it works because you have 2 different champions.)

- Also this year's playoffs were kind of odd and sort of unfair for those who killed themselves to be in 1st place (IE: Revs).

Its just so unfair. Not only did the revs NOT lose the game, but they lost on freaken PKs. (which could be seen like a coin toss). Just unfair and now Houston are the champions.

MLS isnt as exciting as it seems, they need more teams from more states (excluding redneck states, e.g. Bobby's state).
