MLS and Mexican league Joining in future?

(Guys, I put this here so it would get attention, but we can add this to the MLS thread if that's what's supposed to happen.)

A few weeks ago a friend of mine told me he read this (under here) at Terra.com. Then Jorge Ramos talked about it briefly on his show.

And now I read it on a canadians fan site:
THIS article:

" TCS: SuperLiga a starting point
Unless Heidi Klum has just walked by me I generally like to look forward, but we need to take a second and look back at a major announcement that was lost in the shuffle of Beckhamania over the weekend.
It's called SuperLiga, and it is the future of Major League Soccer.

OK, a little dramatic, but also true.

In case you were too busy running out and buying up Galaxy jerseys with number 23 on them, MLS announced late last week a new tournament featuring four teams from MLS and four from south of the 2-0 border.

First off is a group stage with two teams from each country, then a knockout format until a champion is crowned. From MLS are the Hoops, Houston, D.C. United and the Galaxy. From the bad guys are the Chivas mothership, America, Pachuca and Morelia.

Winner gets a million bucks, although there is an individual prize for any player who finds the neck of America's Cuauhtémoc Blanco. Or two-foots him.

Fans in Chicago and Colorado will get a taste as well, as both Toyota Park and Dick's Sporting Goods Park will host games between Mexican sides.

The whole thing runs from late July through August, and we can watch it on Univision and my guess is with Beckhamania now in the mix, an English-language television partner will pop up before too long.

Beckham and the Galaxy against Chivas at The Home Depot Center? Think that environment may be a little electric?

So here's why your old pal Tino is en fuego about this thing - because one day, sometime, MLS and Mexican teams will compete against each other in a full-on combined league. Gonna happen, kids.

The tea leaves say MLS is headed in the right direction to make the product better on the field. Big dough from TV partners, new stadiums, the "Beckham Rule," youth development - it all adds up.

And at some point with that kind of new growth and stability, the upside will be too strong for MLS and the Mexican league not to join forces.

I'm not smart enough to know how it's going to happen, but it says here it does.

And this is the first step. SuperLiga is going to be fantastic - and my guess is just a taste of things to come one day down the road."

All I have to say is: This would be beyond awesome. It would lift North American soccer to a super league that would rival the best in the world. (A Canadian, Mexican and American league?)

----------- but is it possible? Or is it just an idea?
I mean: What about the 2nd division Mexican sides???? What about all the new clubs joining the MLS. We cant just have a 40 team league can we???(unless we do it like the NBA/NHL does with conference games and then playoffs.)

But it's alot to take in, though the money would be incredible for all the teams/leagues involved.

This is pretty interesting and huge if it were to happen..............but I still cant see it in the near future. (if ever for various reasons above <1 other being that the MExican league is doing great already, why change it?).

For anybody that cares, it would be another reason to keep Mexican clubs out of Libertadores - oh wait, so now N.America is relevant and they're getting lots of $$ from there?

But that won't happen. MLS is still maturing and Mexican league has a much more complex background to handle, so a full merger would hurt both sides. Not that a lucrative summer tournament would...

have you notice that Libertadores, makes a refferece to San Martin, Bolivar, and O'Higgins? and it's traditionaly a cup for south america, why mexico should be in?

i believe that's the main reason to be OUT of libertadores, maybe once or twice in ten years bring two teams as "special guests", but not more than that

So is this a Mexican haters thread or what the hell.

Not at all - "For anybody that cares" implied "not that I do", but apparently it failed to get the point across. Also, the "historical" observation by Slowhand wouldn't make a good reason no matter what.

*wears the flame retarding gear*

All the comments in this thread are stupid and useless.

What was the reason of making it?, anyone with a brain would know this is tottaly false.

What about making a thread like this "Copa de Oro an Copa America joining in future?"

Any guy with half a brain would actually read the first post and see that it was really asking: "Why the hell are so many media sources talking about this?"

It's obviously not possible. Congratulations (Y) . You're like the guy who puts his hand up in class at rhetorical questions and then feel proud that you answered it.

I think bringing Mexican teams to the MLS would bring down the top quality football being played in the MLS currently. :)

Make America Great Again
Will never happen. All of the talent would immediately leave Mexico for the United States because there would be so much more money. I can't imagine how this would be a good thing for the Mexican clubs. For the League, you know for the front office, it's probably a good thing, and I suppose the TV money would entice the Mexican owners, but Mexico has always been a proud soccer nation and I don't see them taking a backseat to the United States by doing this.

top quality MLS? I.M.H.O. not even a league, come on. no relegation or promotion and with only 13 teams. give me a break, how can you even call that a league. pathetic....

I just hope this tourney fades away. Both America and Morelia will play but it still doesn't do anything for me.

Shifty, Mexican league players don't wine too much about their salaries...or at all.

San Diego, naaah for reals? :o

Yea, they used to play at Torero Stadium as members of the USL Premier Development League. Herculez Gomez played for them at one point.

I expect they're totally out of money now though, so it's unlikely.

Not in your lifetime.

The FMF is a league of tradition, competitiveness, and money, alot of money!
No MLS team has enough of any of the three.

Maybe in the future.
