Michael Owen Signs for Newcastle in Record Transfer

Haha, I was expecting him to sign for Liverpool. Real Madrid is the winner, and it gladdens my heart that Fergie (an admirer) will never be able to buy the Welsh midget, thank fuck.

I wonder what Souness, Shep., and Shearer said to persuade him to sign.
Emotional blackmail. Lets hope he enjoys as much success as Stinks of Piss (not). :ewan:

Madrid wanted him to stay. it was his choice to go to Newcastle.

Yeh they sure wanted him to stay i mean they bought Robinho and The Beast so he could have other forwards to talk to at Training :nape:

You should be be the one reading the facts like a World Class Player is going to sit on the bench when he is in top form scoring goals in a World Cup Year

When they make him 5th choice after all the goals he scored & try to whore him in every deal they attempted, can you blame him?

What a humble, professional player.

I guess this is a good move if we can get Ramos with the money.

Best of luck to Michael !!

It doesn't matter who Newcastle sign...as long as Souness is in charge it just aint gonna happen. Souness is probably the worst manager in Prem league history, I mean, Castle are the only ones in the whole Football League not to score, even Conference team Crawley Town managed their first goal. :nape:

Not even signing Michael Owen is gonna save Souness's ass. He'll be gone by Christmas, and if they don't turn it around real fast, did someone say relegation dogfight?

This made my morning, literally. The only way I couldve been happier is if he had signed with Chelsea. He didnt sign with a title rival (sorry toon fans, but not just yet) or a team where I would have to hate him by default. What a class guy Owen is. Rejected the surer path to the Champions League for the chance to bring a team desperate for goals, who still flock in their thousands every weekend to see an increasingly frustrated side (best fans in England, in my opinions) and now he is going to be like some kind of golden god to them. On top of that he made a club that wouldnt play him exceedingly rich by giving his all and getting back in the saddle on what little time they allowerd him. Rest assured, I will be putting in for a Toon jersey with a gold '10' on the back next chance I get

For most of us it worked, sadly Luxemburgo prefered Robinho and Baptista, but i guess after all maybe Owen was not very happy living in Madrid, even when he was in the line up he never looked happy at all.
Its sad that it worked so well in the minds of the fans, and yet the politics of the club, for whatever reason, just wouldnt allow him to get from under the thumb. Its strange enough that he was a fan favorite, and yet the suits of Madrid seemed to act with indifference

I think he is attempting to offload Cisse for the same reason: wants to make it "his" team

Now, lets hope they cock up some big tactical issue at the weekend, and Souness is out the door to give this new team a fresh start. He has made some excellent acquisitions, but not much else.

What a brilliant signing for the Barcodes. Madrid obviously didn't appreciate what he did for them in such a short period of time.

Shepard called it his proudest day since acquiring Shearer 10 years ago. I would be hard pressed to think of a more significant victory in Newcastle's recent history

I am I die hard toon fan and I'm actually crying, this is the best moment of my life to date (i'm only 16). Our team just gets so much better by this signing. However I'm really interested what he himself has got to say about the whole thing. I think Shearer was the most important persuader but I wouldn't be surprised if Jonathon Woodgate put in a good word for Newcastle. Our starting 11(when all fit) looks really good now,

Strikers= Owen, SHearer

Mid= Luque, Emre, Parker, Dyer

Def= Babayaro, Bramble, Boumsong, Carr

Put it this way, I would really hate to be fulham in 2 weeks

Owen, Luque, Shearer, Emre, Jenas, Parker, Dyer...if you could get rid of Souness, you could actually start dreaming about League Cup.

Congrats man: huge day for your club and happier days are on the way, im sure

The only thing that would maybe abbait my elation about the signing is that, the way they played Luque out wide left at the weekend, Im thinking Newcastle could do well to sign a dead-wood, crouch-esque target man (hopefully not for crouch-esque type money :|) that would let Owen knock them in at a prolific rate.....not to ice big al out of the squad

Carlton Cole, though he is pretty useless otherwise, could be had for probably 1-2 million pounds

To be fair to the scouse loving cunt Souness, he's actually made some fantastic signings - Parker, Luque, Emre, Boumsong. I think, if they can start hitting the back of the net Newcastle United can become a top six side again in a year or two.

Given, Boumsong, Parker, Owen, Luque, they would all get into almost any team in the league. I definitely wouldn't mind Given, Boumsong and Parker at Manchester United, but then again that just goes to show how far Ferguson has let our standards drop over the past two years.

wow, goodbye Michael :( you were ******* awesome... but 28m euros is a lot of money (6)

well i heard its only £7m because real still owe us £10m 4 woodgate??
maybe thats wrong but i heard it from someone.

We do have a good startin eleven, except were gona have 2 keep playin Bowyer (god knows why they play him instead of others !! :nape: ) Because Dyer has torn his hamstring again and will be out 4 a lengthy spell again!!! (which is a shame becaus i hoped he'd cement his spot in england squad this year :( )

I agree, get rid of Souness, get someone who can actually manage a club .... Their midfield of Jenas, Bowyer, Parker, Dyer can be an England 'B' side midfield plus Shearer & Owen ...... They have a fantastic squad ... Hopefully they can turn around & challenge for a UEFA Cup spot .......

(H)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brilliant. I am delighted and will not need to burn anything related to Liverpool :fool:

Last year in his opinion we werent good enough for him, this year in my opinion... he's not good enough for us.

Cisse, it's over to you!

As a United fan, I really didn't want to see Owen back in the EPL, just because he's so damn good, and I knew he wasn't coming to Old Trafford. Congrats Newcastle, great signing.
