For the hard-up footballers of Exeter City it is an innocent goal celebration that earns a few quid from their sponsors.

Manchester United's fans have succeeded in blocking Exeter from celebrating goals with aeroplane impressions when they meet at Old Trafford on January 8.

The non-league club have adopted the celebration all season but United's followers complained that it would be disrespectful because of the Munich air disaster, in which 21 people, including seven players, died in 1958.

United fans protested after learning that Exeter's sponsor, the budget airline Flybe, offers a £1,000 reward to any member of the team who scores in Conference matches and impersonates an aeroplane.

I don't get why Man United has to take away a celebration that Exeter did in the beginning of the season. It's not like they are purposely doing it to mock Man United.


And also it's funny how Man United are talking about how Leeds, Man City, etc. are disrespectful about the Munich thing but they sign a player who sang songs about Munich. And not only did they sign him but they hail him as one of their new heroes.

Everyone gets a chance to prove themselves. Smith got his and he showed what he can do. I don't care what kind of songs he sang in the best, i wouldn't even care if he did a duet with Terry Venables, the point is he is playing his heart out and that's what matters.

You're willing to look past a player who actually offended your club but you're not willing to allow a team celebrate their own celebration that is not even about the Munich incident.
