Ireland are looking for a new manager after Mick McCarthy resigned on Tuesday.

A combination of Ireland poor start to their Euro 2004 qualifying campaign and the Roy Keane saga was behind McCarthy's resignation

Hope Ireland can manage good results after McCarthy's resigned.

Nevertheless, thank you McCarthy, for his great achievement in last WC. :)

They should've beaten Spain in the round of 16.

yeah this comes at a great shock ... when you think that he was linked with the Sunderland job only a few weeks back ... and now he quits.

I heard Carlos Charlton commenting on how he thinks this shows that Keane might have won his battle against Mick ... which is sad .. and I agree
as much as I think Keane is a brilliant player ... it's sad to see he's won this particular battle

Am I the only person that thinks that Ireland's good world cup run was built on the furore surrounding Roy Keane, like when a team has an upturn in ability when they get a new manager (usually) then start to play crap once they've got used to it?

I think if Keane had played they'd have got further, but without Keane they are showing their true ability in the qualifiers for Euro2004.

I think Keane will decide not to return to play for Ireland anyway, which will be 'egg on your face' for the FAI. :D Hehe.

I feel that this is either a 'slight' overreaction, or a very biased opinion.
... well in any case, it isn't true .. Roy Keane is a world Class player
and a true leader ....
however he shouldn't be let into the Irish national team too easily

But the Irish NT need him a lot, lot more than he needs them. I think Ireland's record in Keane's last 10 games for them was W7 D3 L0, including home and away games against Holland and Portugal. Since he played his last game it's been W1 D3 L3, with the only victory coming against Saudi Arabia.

I'll admit that I'm biased because I like Roy Keane, being a Man Utd fan. But I do feel that he was vilified by the press, Mick McCarthy and stabbed in the back by his team-mates at Ireland and we don't know exactly what happened in Saipan. I feel it was more due to poor management on McCarthy's part than a childish tantrum by Keane. As I said though, I'm as likely to defend Roy Keane as ABU's are to attack him, without knowing the full facts.

I'll just be glad to see the back of this episode.

Here is my view, and I'm Irish and I know most of the story.

Saying Keane shouldn't be let back too easy is not good for us - we need him back now. McCarthy had to go, we need to win all our matches to have a chance of qualification, and with Keane we will do that!!! No if's or but's - we need him badly.

Will Keane decided not to appeal for the five-match ban, I do want to see him in international action again tho

With Keane i reckon Ireland could have got even further at the World Cup. they have some very exceptionally talented individuals in the team, along with some reliable workhorses. What is missing is the key man on the field who can link all this together, and that man has not played for some time. Is it too late now though? I certainly hope not. i want to see both Ireland AND Wales at Euro 2004.
