If a player doesn't show up in the training report does that mean he can't improve anymore in the area that you have him training in?

If that is the case, then it seems I buy defenders that will only improve one more ball and then max out. Is there any way to know which players are maxed when you see them on the transfer page so I wont spend my money on these players?

Yeah, unfortunately it does mean they are maxed out in that area.

As of yet there is no way of knowing what the players limit is, and I don't think there ever will be, that would take some of the fun away.

It's just unlucky for you. You could always sell the player. With the way the transfer market is at the moment, would should be able to get back what you have spent, but you won't get much profit at all.
