Massively overrated players

I've gotten the feeling that there's so many VERY overrated players in FM2006 (more than in the previous versions).

Example:
Look at Sampdoria's defensive midfielder Sergio Volpi compared to maybe the worlds best playmaker, Andrea Pirlo.

Volpi has all the stats Pirlo has, some a few notches better, some a few notches weaker. But overall, he looks like just as good a playmaker as Pirlo. And, in addition to this, he has the defensive qualities of a player like Gattuso (a tad weaker on a few skills, but still...).

A player like this would surely be more recognised in real life than what is the case with Volpi, am I not right? Come on, he has better skills than Lampard and Steven Gerrard!

And Volpi is not the only player who is very overrated. Angelo Palombo on Sampdoria is almost identical to Volpi, Marseille's Lorik Cana is a defensive god, and Atletico Madrid's goalkeeper Leo Franco is just as good as Gianluigi Buffon, and still he hasn't got a single cap for Argentina, aged 27.

There are loads of other examples as well, so am I missing something?

I know that there is a Reputation skill, where Potential, Current Ability etc. is represented, but this doesn't play a very big role, right? It's the visible skills that decides how good the player is, if I'm not completely wrong (though, I may be).

Other views on this?

Flachi is also ridiculus at the start of the game. Also, a lot of the players for the surprise CL teams, Villarreal and Udinese are so damn good. Felipe is brilliant in the game, but from what i've seen shocking in real life.

yea Villareal is unrealistically good in the game. They've been to the CL quarters and semis in the two seasons I've played. And they swept my group in the first season, beating teams like Arsenal 3-0.

welcome to FM :rockman:

seriously now, it's always been like this, except perhaps this year a little more 'exagerated' on the smaller teams..but it doesn't take away the greatness of the best football game..

Flachi owns, my favourite player on FM05 (H) No bad word about him.

Volpi is very good in real life too btw, I have seen some live matches of Sampdoria the last two years, and his longshots are one of the best Ive seen in recent years, probably better than the Pirlos and Gerrards. He just has the bad luck that he's old already, otherwise he would go to a big team IRL I think. Same goes for Flachi, he was very good last season

yeah, another thing is older players are much better now than in previews fm/cm's...i guess that fair..it's not like they're machines or somethin', they're phisical stats are crap and stuff...but the mental and technical reflect much more experience, which is good....well, not for me, i try not to have players over 29:p

Shearer's stats and some other old players are class. Well SI have decide to use the experience as a variable in deciding stats now. :chew:

Yeah, Flachi is just as good as Totti on FM. He may be as good in real life too, I haven't seen Sampdoria play much, so I can't say, but I know he scores loads of goals.

Ha, I don't think age can really be considered a factor of luck.

When he was young he played with Sampdoria and Piacenza in the serie B and not attracting big clubs, they dont often buy from lower league. Now he's older, and very good, but because he's old, big clubs wont buy him, as he won't have many years to go, they'd rather invest in someone younger. That's what I meant

ibrahimovic
Zlatan is one of the best forwards in the world and (probably) the most important players on one of the best teams in the world, so I won't say he's VERY overrated, but he has a few skills that are strange.

For example, his acceleration and pace is 19 and 17 in my game. He may be fast for his size, but he's nowhere near players like Martins and Henry. More reasonable would be Acc. 16, and pace 14, maybe.

He also has a high finishing stat (18) for a player who has only scored 4 goals this season. But, then again, he's a good technical finisher, but he lacks that "goalscoring" skill, so maybe his off the ball or anticipation skill should go down.

Frei? :jambo: :jambo:
There are loads of underrated players, but they are mostly "unknown" for many. For example, we have two players here in the Norwegian Premier Division, Kristoffer Hæstad and Christian Grindheim. They both hold a very high level, and are easily the best midfielders in the league (and in Norway), and it won't be long before a big club signs them (Hæstad has been watched by Milan and a bunch of other Italian clubs this season).

The point is they are underrated in FM, but this is of course not Sports Interactive's (or the researchers') fault, since they have no clue on which young talents will play good/bad.

In the bigger leagues (England, Spain, Italy which I play the most), I think the researchers have done a very good job.

then what is ronaldinho? maybe he should get an extra +5 for his stats and when he reaches above 20 get a 20+++. Anyways there are 2-3 of you here that are very biased (when it comes to ibrahimovic at least) and, sorry, but you cant be taken seriously on the matter :p So biased that make me look like i hate him, when i actualy like him. :ewan:
