Marco van Basten new Holland-coach

For 99% sure Marco van Basten will become the new 'bondscoach' of Holland.
This morning the Dutch FA (KNVB) has formally done a request at Ajax to do talks with Marco van Basten and the new assistant John van 't Schip, both trainers from Ajax.
Ajax has said they will not be in the way of van Basten and van 't Schip and has allowed them to go.
The KNVB-chairman got talks with Cruijff at monday to asked him for advice and van Basten and van 't Schip are Cruijff's number 1 candidate.
According to all parties it's just a matter of signing the contracts and no financial problems are expected.

Holland will build at a new, young team after Stam, Overmars and Frank de Boer resigned to international football (maybe more to follow, like Cocu). The KNVB-chairman said they sign a contract for 4 years and he only expect Holland to do well at the EURO2008 tournament. He thinks qualifying for Germany 2006 may be a hard nut to crack with all of those new young players, so he did not demand qualifying for Germany.

What do you guys think about this? :)

Well he's a legend. Dont know about his experience as a coach, but he knows the game and the players. Would be a good move if you ask me.

Surely he will get the backing of the whole nation because of his reputation, coupled with the fact that some older members of the NT are now gone, even if he cannot start off the job brilliantly. So he has enough time to build up a new national team, which is good to an inexperieced manager.

But it's still too big a gamble(well even a 7yr old kid knows that), if you ask me.

he did not demand qualifying for 2006?

The Dutch federation must be on crack.

With the lot of players that Holland non qualification for 2006 should be regarded as a major failure no matter what.

Did you read about the new young players? You cannot ask too much, but believe me, they still will try to qualify :)

Well Romania and the Czech Republic are in the same group as Holland so you can't just go out and say that they will qualify before the first games are even played.

About time that Holland gets ride of those old wracks like Overmars, Stam and de Boer.

The team chemistry will get better and their coach is finally accepted by the fans and the media not like Dick.

The new team should be able to left Romania behind them. You never know about the Czechs. They tend to be a bit inconsistant (didn't qualify for WC02, amazing qualification round and group games, nothing in the quarters and semis of the Euro).

Come on, we want to see the Dutch in Germany 2006. :rockman:

Yeah, why not? It's less fun without you. Remember the WC 74? Holland vs. Brazil at Westfalenstadion, packed with 50 000 Dutch supporters, what a match that was!

And then the final of course. :$

Great to see a legend building a future team of legends :)

If he's given time and space, he will turn Holland into it once was, back in his time: unstoppable. Well, not completely, because if they face Portugal... well, you know :p

Nevertheless, great move by the Dutch FA indeed. Marco does a great job with the young lads.

Stranger things have happened. At least van Basten has some experience under his belt. Unlike Rudi Voller.
