We probably dont need a new striker, we already got 4 solskjaer, rooney, saha, and tevez. plus we have anderson who can also play as striker so we really dont need huntelaar.....
we got so many player's who can play striker if needed, Tevez,ole,saha,dong- and options with anderson, ronaldo, giggs, nani.

I have a differ of opinion, I don't think there's anything wrong with the lad, his finish could do with some improvement put his work rate is massive, high work ethic.

Watching him pre season a few times has been great, he seems better then last season, quick and controlled. All in all he's improving.

His last goal was rather nice, think he even set-up the first. Dont get me wrong hes no wayne rooney, but hes improving and deserves a chance.

dong goal here

He could do with game time against good opposition, hes got potential, I'd give him a year or two. Good luck too him.

rooney's out for 2 months damn!!. what a blow. our european ambitions could be affected as well. Hopefully tevez can fill in and do a job for us. Right now the short term goal is to get 3 points at pompey.

nope. rooney had a subpar year last year and you guys still won the epl + you have much quality and now w/ teves...no need to worry, you'll be fine.

so joint top goalscorer is subpar? come off it. It was Ronaldo's year to shine, but that doesn't mean that Rooney had a bad year at all. There's much more to Rooney's game than scoring goals anyway.

Rooney was brilliant even when he didn't score.

He was inconsistent though, he would go for long periods without scoring then bang in two against Watford or other weak opposition. Ronaldo was light years ahead of him in terms of impact on the team.

Rooney was looking very sharp though up untill the break. How many goals he scored 4 pre season? I'm gutted, i thought he was going to really shine beyond his own expectations.

This might hold him back, hes had frustrated periods after a injuries in the past.

touch wood he heals fast.

Rooney was brilliant last season, but everyone knows even then he was still slightly off form. His touch wasn't the same and the strong dribbling that we've seen this pre-season and in previous season just wasn't working for him.

he dint have to score to be quality...he set up goals or made good movements on the pitch to allow someone else to score. i dont know why everyone thinks that you have to score to be a quality player. i agree that ronaldo was better but i dont know about "lightyears" better.

LOL rooney has a record last season that any striker would be proud of. With the exception of Drogba and Berbatov, he is probably the best striker last season. He doesn't need to score so much when ronaldo's there to bang in the goals. And he is five years younger than any of the other top strikers in the league.

Let's say he improves this year like he should. That'll bring him to Drogba level. And when he reaches the peak age that Drogba and Berbatov are at now, he could be the best striker in the world.

Help?

The issue here is not him being crappy, its that at times last season he was off-form, whether he scored goals or not. Or are we quickly forgetting about how half the people here complained about him having below-par performances in some of the games?

Nobody denies that Rooney was still great last season, but he definietly wasn't on top form.

Don't I remember Wayne being played well out of position for most of last season? Didn't Fergie put him on the left a lot?

I think it should be taken into consideration that Rooney was pissed off at being shoved over to the left where he does not like playing, and more importantly does not play at his best.

Well with the way United are playing these days he does spend time on the left, but equal time in the middle/on the right. They're always interchanging throughout the game.

It's interesting to watch and originated from Giggs and Beckham occasionally swapping sides to confuse defenders iirc.
