I sure hope this stuff in the papers is a load of rubbish. Distinct lack of quotes at all.

I wonder how true that is. Its a bit worrying, I know if I was rooney, won everything with club and now been offered £60 million over 5 years, it would be very tempting.

250k a week :O in sunny Spain without losing 50% of his wage to Tax. Tempting to say the least.

I guess we will find out how in debt we really are.

When I saw the source as "The Sun" I stopped reading lol

Here is the difference. Rooney doesN'T have a pop star wife and he is NOT of latino descent. The guy couldn't give a crap about the sun. He is quite off-field, enjoys physical challenges over flair and plays for the hell of it, warm weather and money won't tempt him. If there is one guy on our team that will never move outside of England its him, apart from Scholes and Giggs who are too old now for that.

If Madrid really did make that kind of offer we'd have to take it.

Or, ask for $120 million plus Benzema.

Then buy David Villa and Gourcuff with the cash.

Bam, we win the treble next year.

I hate to admit it but if there was a formal offer by real, (I think the offers complete gash anyway) it would be hard for them to refuse. Especially with the glazers hovering.

Even if this report IS rubbish, which it probably is, you'd have to figure anyway that Madrid were bound to make a play for Rooney this summer, because that is just their way.

I can see them making offers for all of the world's best players this summer, simply because they have the money, so why not. Villa, Torres, Cesc, Ribery, Rooney, Aguero, and any player that winds up having a great World Cup.

And no I'm not trying to say they're going to sign all those players...but it doesn't hurt Madrid at all to make offers, and I'm sure they will.

If it was between Rooney and David Villa + Gourcuff, I would still chose Rooney. He is a machine, one of few players out there that truly play with passion. Just look at how determined he was to play in the 2nd leg against Bayern after suffering an ankle injury? How many players out there can we say would try to do the same?

It wouldn't be...

I suggested $130 million plus Benzema for Rooney, then buy Villa and Gourcuff with the cash.

And that doesn't even count what we could buy with the other transfer money we are supposed to have anyway.

So basically imagine Benzema, Villa and Gourcuff, plus we buy a young keeper and maybe another young striker with the money we were already going to spend.

I love the Wonder Boy as much as any of you but you cannot turn down that kind of money.

Ferguson says Rooney will not be joining Real Madrid

Rooney could play against Man City
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has rubbished reports that Wayne Rooney could join Real Madrid at the end of the season.

On Friday, The Sun newspaper said Real will bid £90m for the England striker, 24, and offer him £250,000 a week.
"It's the silly season isn't it," said Ferguson. "It always happens at the end of the season. Wayne Rooney will still be here next year."

The Scot added Rooney could be fit to face Manchester City on Saturday.
Rooney has been struggling with an ankle problem he aggravated in the second leg of last week's Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, but has trained this week.

Rooney will play wherever he can most enjoy his football. There is no more genuine football-loving player in England

"He has done some work over the last couple of days and we will see how he is for Saturday's game," said Ferguson, who also confirmed Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand have an outside chance of being involved at Eastlands.
Owen Hargreaves is set to be included in United's squad, meaning the midfielder could make his first senior appearance in almost 20 months.

Hargreaves' fitness is one of the matters Ferguson will give thought to this summer as he looks to reshape a squad that has already been bolstered by the signings of Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling, with more set to follow.

"We have a reasonable structure here. There is nothing wrong with it," said Ferguson. "We may look at one or two things, but nothing serious.
"It is important not to confuse us with others who have much more buying power. We do not need to worry about them.

"It was the same with Chelsea. We didn't bother ourselves when they were buying. We just try to concentrate on what we are doing."

Good news. If rooney has a good world cup i'd expect more though.

Wenger was spot on with what he said yesterday - The press over here seem hellbent on selling the League's best players. The Scum and the Mirror are at the forefront of it all the time, they are both notoriously anti United (In fact the Mirror still doesn't even use our proper crest)

It would be a spectacular PR own goal from the Glazers to sell Rooney, Fergie would walk and the fans would lynch them. United need to add to the squad and rebuild, and a rebuild does not include the sale of our best player.

Ronaldo went because he wanted to go, he's Latin and wanted to be closer to his family and culture - Rooney's a northern England boy to the core, he can become the greatest legend in the history of our club - he can acheive all his ambitions at United.

As for tomorrow, I've got a nasty feeling it's going to be one of those times where football rears up and smacks us in the face - We've done too much to City this season, I fear it will even itself out tomorrow with them costing us the League. This is not the usual Citeh we're playing - this is a dangerous team.

Only 90 million is being mentioned and having received 80 from Ronaldo already, we will be pushed to cough up every single penny with those two alone costing us the full 90 million.

Notice this little quote Fergie snuck in

Yeah, that Ronaldo money is not there anymore, so lets stop thinking about it.

I think the context was meant as clubs that have bottomless pits of money - United never have been in that position because we've always been run by people watching the bottom line. That doesn't hint United haven't still got the Ronaldo money kicking around - it means City could spend £2-300 million in the summer, like Real did last season.

United's philosophy has recently been to mostly buy young players and develop them. Berbatov was the exception and Owen was a free deal. Fergie got burned on Juan Veron several years ago. Really most of Uniteds purchases have been youngsters - even Ferdinand, though he was experienced too.

Look at this summer's mooted targets:

Lloris
Benzema
Suarez
Milner
Silva

All youngish, and on the cusp of being superstars (Benzema possibly arguably is one) United rarely buy a player that can't provide a good few years of service -

Fergie's hinted also today that United are looking at adding "one or two players" in the Summer. We've got Smalling and Hernandez. Welbeck, Tosic and Cleverley will return from loan spells, Anderson will be back too.

I think we need another striker for sure. Macheda will play a bigger part next season, Anderson may prove to be the attacking midfielder we lacked this season and Hargreaves hopefully will be fully fit too.

So yeah, I could see two being okay - although sooner rather than later we're going to need to replace Giggs, Scholes and Nev.

not if Real Madrid have anything to say about it ... and they'll be able to at least match (if not better) anything you guys can offer Valencia for him ... if Valencia were not in need of the funds, they would want to sell to a non-Spanish side; but they are in need of funds, and will need to sell to the highest bidders ... and if it came down to him, Silva would choose to stay in Spain than move to England ...

MikeyM;2853655 said:
would be a terrific purchase, and worth a big transfer fee (Lyon won't let him go easily) ... but again, I would expect some stiff competition to land his signature, which could be won if you guys are ready to bid big ...

MikeyM;2853655 said:
it is very possible that Real would sell, though I don't think that would happen this summer -- partly because Florentino just had him signed last summer, and partly because he is still young, and his potential is there for all to see ... I'm sure if you guys were to inquire about young Coco, Real Madrid would want to talk about including him a part-exchange deal for Rooney ...

MikeyM;2853655 said:
if Suárez is to move, he wants Barça ... he has said this a couple of times already ... but what he has said even more is that he is happy to stay at Ajax next season ... depending on how the 2 remaining Eredivisie matches go, and how his World Cup with Uruguay goes, he may stay one more season with Ajax and play in the Champions League, or he may move to Spain with Barcelona (who are in the market for a versatile forward who can play on the left side of the trident, but is also comfortable in the middle or on the right; Luis ticks all the boxes) ...

Makes no difference.

When Madrid come calling with the cash, Malcolm the Deceiver will make Ferguson sell whether he wants to or not, and quite frankly Rooney would be foolish to turn down that kind of paycheck.

Madrid will also surely make a swoop for Vidic and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go also.

Wow, you're a real ray of sunshine this evening ain't ya! :innocent_smile_1:

Ronaldo went to Real because he angled for the move. Rooney is completely different. Vidic might go, but if Fergie doesn't want them to go - then they won't.

Beckham, Heinze, Ruud, Ronaldo - they all went because Fergie wanted them to go (well he knew Ronaldo was going, I'm sure he didn't really want him to go)

The issue with Glazer is the debt he's put on the club, you can't argue that they haven't supported Sir Alex with cash when he's needed it.
