insane. Lemme apply some logic now.

This is going to be a tough one, on one hand Owen on his day and fit is one of the greatest strikers to have graced the premiership/world stage.

on the other his form the last couple of seasons has been awful through continuous injury and lack of any real support/service from team mates.

I think it is a gamble that may pay off. Yes, Owen doesn't have the blistering pace he used to, but he won't need it. Utd have plenty of energy in the team and will provide top quality service to Owen. He will have to play smart, finding opportune moments to move for the passes or dropping into gaps awaiting delivery. Only then will his potency in front of goal shine through. Let the young guns run around and do the hard work getting the ball into the danger zone, then call on his experience and slide it into the net.

I would still like Fergie to bring in a top rated striker. Or at the very least see more of our youth team/reserve strikers being utilized. Get them some regular first team footie, even if it means borrowing the Wenger approach and dedicating one cup to them, playing only our young untested players.

Some of the Manchester fans are pretty funny (not just talking about this board) after Ronaldo gets sold he is wank, Benzema was good until he signed for Madrid and now he is crap but Michael Owen is wonderful. Anyway, I have to say it's a rather strange singing but my bet is that you guys will still end up getting Hunter because lets face it Owen is not world class and you guys will need someone else to come in for goals, espeically since Berbatov is not that great either.

go and wash ur arse :clapwap:

Rooney back to his position...around 20 goals this season is wht we expect..
hopefully berbatov can score around 15
with owen chipping in 10 :P
maybe this will turn out to be an awesome signing in disguise
we r equipped in the strikeforce now
with macheda and wellback to backup

with valencia in..we need 1 more winger...
maybe lennon..ribery seems unlikely...
id go for lennon

Nobody said Benzema is rubbish, it's just there is a lot more to come from him, plus lashing out that amount of money (even on really talented players) is a real gamble. Benzema may not have adapted to the Premiership.

As for Owen, his form last year certainly wasn't world class - but if he plays anywhere near his best then he's up there. Incidentally Owen scored more Premiership goals for a weaker team in fewer games than Tevez did in more for United last term.

If Owen gets the chances, his strike rate will improve - it's actually a really exciting prospect if you think about it. I'll admit I certainly was shocked and initially a little dissapointed, but when you analyse the facts of what a fully fit Owen could offer United it's really good news.

The general consensus is that United are not done recruiting yet, so maybe there will be another frontman coming. I'd love to see Hunter here, I think he'd be another Van Nistelrooy.

I suspect the next signing may be a creative midfielder though - or even a defensive midfielder, allowing Anderson to be utilised more in his favourite attacking role. Anderson is Paul Scholes long term successor IMO.

Ah he got a United shirt, and all Valencia got was a cap! :)

There is a picture I honestly thought I'd never see - it's gonna be wierd seeing him run out for us, but I'm happy he's here.

I wonder what the squad numbers will be for the new boys, and if any existing numbers will swap?

rooney
carrick
scholes
welbeck
Evans
Simpson
cambel
Brandy
Owen
gibson
Oshea

theres others but I figure these are the ones that may play for the senior team. Add someone like lennon to the mix we could prob field an all british team. Impressive for a league like ours dominated by foreigners.

You really think Benzema was expensive? We basically signed him for the amount of money you guys paid for Berbatov who is much older and IMO did not have a great year either. To me that was a waste of money.

I just think the whole Owen deal is really weird, everyone was laughing at him adn his brocure but now that Ferguson got him it's a brilliant deal? Would the same have appiled if Hull City got him (they really were considering getting him, I thinkt aht should say a lot about this transfer). I'm just saying in one summer you guys lost Ronaldo and Tevet and got Valencia and Owen in.

You make it sound like the loss of Tevez is going to be the demise of the team... he was never that good. 19 goals in 63 games or 8 goals in 50 for argentina aint exactly anything to rave about.

He run... and was very good at it no one can argue his energy and effort but i think thats where it ends. You cant help love the Alan smiths, Parks, Tevez's of this world. He could of got away with it being a midfeilder but as a striker... theres a reason SAF dragged his feet and I doubt it was to do with the price.

Owen is a cheap super sub type replacement... a ballon d'or player who due to a series of misfortunate events ended up in the bargin basket. Hes worth a gamble it may pay off, it may not but at that price... why not. Either way we still have plenty of money to burn and unlike some other teams we can afford to take the risk.

As for Ronaldo... he will be missed. We have had players like him go before, players that were missed but look what always happens. We come back to winning form as we will this time. Infact I think the team will function better without him now as it did when RVN left. Worst case we will have a drought a season or two but i'd expect us to do well domestically and wouldnt be suprised if we went far in the champions league with the other English teams too. I still fancy our chances vs any of the top european teams

Tevez's job was not to score goals though, he had a quite good scoring record in Brazil if memory serves me right. He is a lot of the hard work on your team and did well in moving the ball upfield as well, I don't think he is the best player but really Owen is no where near Tevez at the moment who is twice the player he is.

What's the point of playing him in front then? He doesn't even make that many assists. He scored 15 goals and had the same amount of assists as a player like John O'Shea. Tevez is a brilliant player though but we saw his limitations in the past season.

I agree that Owen is not better than Tevez... But he still did score 10 goals in 31 games last season whereas Tevez scored 15 in 51 games. Both have roughly the same goal to game rate.

You're clearly exaggerating there. No one said such a thing like its a 'brilliant signing'. We're just saying that he could be a good backup if he stays fit. Nothing more. I don't think anyone expects him to be a starter.

The thing that would truly piss them off is to see Owen scoring the winning goal against them (H)

Just kidding.

Honestly it feels weird to see Owen in that United kit :S I wonder how will the Liverpool fans react if Owen stays fit to play against Liverpool at Anfield. Will there be boos or will they welcome him warmly for the years he played for Liverpool?

I think it's been a good move for us. We have an experienced backup striker who has played at the top level and we've signed him for nothing. I personally think he can do just as good of a job as Tevez and at least he won't whine that he's not starting the "important" games.

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long
Yellow Card
The traitor won't play as many games as Tevez. 15 Premier League games will be a good return for this criminal(crime=treason).

I personally didn't want him and here but since we have bought him, I'd hope that he does score some goals.

He is a proven goal scorer which we haven't had since Van Nistelrooy but he is past his best and I'd hope he remains injury free. The good thing is that he is currently fit and will have a good pre-season which should help both the club and owen himself.

I don't think he'll turn out good but I hope he does. If he plays 30 games next season, he'll score 12-14 goals easily which is what we need and also he'll be happy to be benched unlike our very own fan favourite ****os Tevez.

I say another way Owen can be a success at United is that if he scores the winning goals against Liverpool at OT and Andfield that will in itself repay us and I wouldn't ask for more after that.
