I am not impressed at all with Moyes so far. Trying to get Fabregas when Thiago is already sold, not even attempting to buy Fellaini when there was still a clause etc. He is not good enough at attracting players and makes poor decisions in the transfer market. On the plus side, he is a great manager when it comes to developing talents into great players. Examples are Fellaini, Baines, Arteta etc. I hope Januzaj, Lingard, Zaha etc develop into great players under him. I am quite confident he is the right manager for the younger players.

Yeah, I mean what's stopping him from getting Fellaini? He is exactly what our midfield needs. Evra is still pretty good in my opinion so we don't need Baines. He would be a lot better but then we'd have to sell Evra, i doubt that he'd be willing to sit on the bench.

Help?

I'm pretty disappointed how things have started as well. Although maybe Moyes doesn't want Fellaini because he doesn't think he is right for us. Afterall he knows his talents best. You can also tell that he had a good chat with Ferguson, after the Fabregas fiasco, he is all mum on his targets now.

I think Carrick wants to play as a deep playmaker and that's why we aren't going for Fellaini. Look at our "supposed" targets Fabregas, Ronaldo, Bale, Ozil. All attacking midfielders.

If Real get Bale, then Ozil could find it really hard to refuse an offer actually.

Oh come on... We have Kagawa who is an amazing player, he fits the attacking MF role really well. Read Klopp's comments about him.
And Fellaini's best position is holding midfielder, but he can play anywhere. Anyway i think i'm having a nervous breakdown (NOTHING TO DO WITH MANUTD)
We need somebody who can dictate the midfield area, fucking Gündogan would be perfect but that's impossible. I'd also like Modrić.
Anyway we are not going sign anyone and end up with Nick Powell and clueless Moyes as the manager. I really hope he proves us wrong.

Back when there was a big hoopla going on about Fellaini to Chelsea some blogger did an in-depth analysis of him and claimed that while he is undoubtedly a great player, statistically, his abilities are not sufficiently in tune with those required of any particular role. Meaning that he loses too many balls and tackles at a level bellow that expected of a DM, he covers the field less than you'd want a B2B to, and he does not score, dribble or penetrate defenses at the rate expected of an AMC. So, while he has a lot of brilliant qualities, at a top level club where he'd be expected to deliver at a high level at the position he'd be played in, he would flounder because he wouldn't be good if he'd specialise at any one position. At a worse club where he'd be their best player and could play multiple roles, he would flourish.

I'm not saying I agree with this (I even blogged about how awesome Fellaini is), and even if true, all of the top sides barring perhaps City should have pounced on him, but there's something to it and maybe the top scouts have vetoed him for this reason. That said, I would love to see a club get him and stick him at CB, he'd be brilliant at it.

I agree, but I think all the top clubs have identified the skillsets they need to complete their midfield and it seems that none of them believe Fellaini is a player who has those skillsets, and spending 25m on a player who doesn't plug your midfield holes (even if he is an improvement) is not something they want to do (especially not Arsenal). For example, Fellaini would walk into the Chelsea first team and make it better, but he wouldn't actually solve our midfield problems. I'd love for us to get him, but I get why Mou doesn't want to spend that kind of money on him and the other clubs (who admittedly need different things from their midfield additions) are probably thinking the same thing. Quite like how Cavani would make any Prem club better but that doesn't mean he's worth the outlay.

Fellaini at CB position? What!? i hope i'm hallunicating, fuck this, but okay, i've always thought that he would fit right in at Chelsea, but come on Mandieta6, we need him at Utd! : )

Fellaini has the right size and build for a CB, he is good in the air and would be amongst the better CBs in term of ball-control and passing. He is also a good defender and his skillset would translate well to that position, just like De Rossi, Yaya and Martinez have done before him. He would need to adapt to it, sure, but it's not out of the question.

Ok, agreed. But still why convert players to CB away from their natural position? Us and Chelsea aren't Barcelona. : ) And those players you mentioned, Martinez played as a centre back for Bilbao, but he was essential for Bayern last season. His pricetag might have been heavy, but he's brilliant playing in the center or as an holding midfielder and he's damn fine at it. Just my opinion.

I agree, but I think Fellaini's ceiling as a CB could ve higher than at MC. He is a brilliant but not worldclass player at MC, and I think he has all the tools to become one of the best CBs. At this point if Chelsea sign him I would like to see him at least given a go at the position.

we have good CBs ... we need a midfielder ... Moyes would be crazy to buy a midfielder and use him in defense.

We can't get anyone else other than Fellaini. I doubt that we even go after him. And yeah like Az said he isn't the most technical midfielder. But i would be happy with him, better than nothing.
I don't really rate Cleverley, he fills his position well, but he lacks creativity. We need someone who bombs forward and even scores from midfield. Someone like Gerrard or Lampard. Not that i would want them at Utd.
Scholes is gone and we really shouldn't start the season with Giggs. I kind of believe in Anderson, that match against City with him and Cleverley in midfield was really nice. Might have been years ago but still, they did really well.

Midfield of Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Welbeck and Cleverley. Rooney on the bench.

A 40-year old winger starting :)

It's Swansea, it's not like you're facing Villa.

All the top 4 clubs should be ashamed of themselves that Gustavo went to Wolfsburg and Capoue to Spurs. They would all be better with one of those two in the squad.
