I dunno what level your friend is studying at but when I was doing my Economics A-level (BTW I got an A(H)) this site came in useful:

http://www.tutor2u.net/revision_notes_economics.asp

I picked out the bits your friend is interested in...

Macroeconomy:
http://www.tutor2u.net/revision_notes_economics.asp#macro

Monopolistic markets:
http://www.tutor2u.net/revision_notes_economics.asp#monopoly

Perfect Competition:
http://www.tutor2u.net/economics/content/topics/monopoly/perfect_competition.htm

Oligopolies:

Hope they help:).

It's a great site.

Although there are few minor flaws, i.e There are no graphs (Short Run & Long Run) that should make clear assumptions for the market competitions (Perfect Competition, Monopolistic Competition, & Oligopoly).

u punkawalla....i hated econs..always likely to be caught sketching tits instead of graphs in class....
tho i usually argue the former's a more attractive subject matter and that i could see the similarities..and it didnt help that my tutor's an old hag widely known on campus as 'bean sprouts'

no tits there either:D

Well, your friend is probably using the Varian's Microeconomics and Blanchard's Macroeconomics. Excellent books. If not, he should borrow them from a library and study from them. I got a 33/30 (more than excellent) at my Economical Institutions exam this term... ;)
