Long Distance Relationships

So, the thing is I am with this girl for the past year. For the first 3 months it was all great as she was in my City (Kolkata), and we met up almost regularly (on a daily basis). But, after that honeymoon period of ours, she had to shift to Delhi to study in the College she wanted to. We decided to continue even after that as we love each other. She helped me to recover from my sickness. But, this 'LDR' thing is taking a toll on me as it's a pain not to get to see her daily, and do all the stuff I want to do with her.

I may shift to Delhi too within a year or two for College.

I personally think Long Distance Relationships do work but then the two people involved in it have to totally immerse themselves in it. Skype is never as good as being there. And both of them have to be fully dedicated in it.

What do you guys think about it? Should I get on with it as it is, and wait and see which way it goes? Or split up now?

Need the help of wise heads.

P.S. : Somebody please rectify the spelling mistake in the thread name.

You'd better behave yourself this time!
Dipu, LDR never work..and as far as I know even via FB, you seem to be serious about her...

Its very difficult to maintain them and you cant blame the other one if she ends up flirting and going around with someone else.

You are very young, so its better not to go so so so so deep into someone so early...cause theres a huge huge gap between now and marriage...

"Jyada info ke liye mujhe fb pe ping kar..bahut experience hain..sab bolunga "

the younger you are, the deeper feelings go.. the thing is if you break up, it wont feel that bad six-seven years from now..

but that doesnt mean "leave it altogether".. do whatever you can to retain your relationship; but if that doesnt work out so well, it's not the end of life..

nevertheless, talking is easy.. you'll hear craploads of these type of advises.. and it wont ease the pain you'll go through.. it only matters what you feel and what you do..

Haha! No body here was looking for any sympathy. I was just asking for a proper advice about this thing. Hardly anyone here is a do-gooder but at least some wise answer could have been expected. My bad..

You got 2 good respones and 2 'bad' ones, stop whining. LeeStweart didn't get any sympathy when he got cancer and died and posted about his problems with his Gateshead boyfriend.

So, the basic thing is I take it less serious and carry on with other aspects of life as it is?

There never has been a problem in this relationship. I posted this maybe because I am too eager about everything, and don't want a predicament. I want to do something that he will be good for all parties involved.

I'm due for cancer any day now, I'm considering going nice for a while once that happens.

Cancer is not something you joke about, babe.

They can work, but a few things have to be true IMO

1) You need to see each other semi-regularly. Probably at minimum like every month, preferably at least every two weeks. You can trade who makes the journey, but try to block off a weekend at least every month.

2) You need to keep your imagination and jealousy in check, and ditto for her.

3) There needs to be an endgame. You can't just do an LDR with no concrete plan to come together in the future. This seems obvious to me, but most people don't even think about it.

Also: if you can get over the guilt feel free to cheat. Just don't say anything ever.

dip, this is the worst place you could ever possibly look for an advice..

well at least I like the way the thread has been shaping.. less boring..

agreed. one of the greatest mistakes a man can ever do. and judging by your certainty, I think you did.
