Liverpool plan emergency call

Liverpool may try to sign a new goalkeeper to cover for dudek as kirkland will be out till next year...

"Liverpool may request special dispensation to sign an emergency goalkeeper.
Young England keeper Chris Kirkland recently suffered a groin injury which will keep him out of action until Christmas.

With the transfer window now closed for Premiership clubs, Anfield boss Gerard Houllier has no chance of signing a replacement.

But league rules state that clubs can request permission to sign a goalkeeper in an emergency.

"We will have to look at that - it is certainly something we will have to consider," Houllier said.

One option for Liverpool is a three-month loan, which will cover them until Kirkland's predicted return. "

The transfer window maybe be shut but that doesn't stop you getting a decent GK on loan from Division 1,2 or even 3.

aye..no better shot stopper in our back four than stephane! ;)

but we've got an academy starlet coming in. i'd personally prefer to see 'em lads given a chance rather than having to dip into the transfer funds at this time. that said i cannae wait to see the likes of otsemobor, foley sheridan, whitbread and welsh break into the team at some point. (aye..partridge too :( )

They say one man's misfortune is another man's opportunity and that is certainly the case for Academy goalkeeper Paul Harrison who was on stand-by for the first team against Leicester at Anfield on Saturday.

With Chris Kirkland out injured, Harrison, who is in the final year of an Academy contract has been elevated to the position of third choice keeper. Patrice Luzi has moved up to understudy to Jerzy Dudek.

The 19-year-old highly rated keeper is a local lad and will be travelling with the first team squad to Slovenia on Tuesday, for Wednesda's UEFA Cup clash with Olympija Ljubljana. It is a fitting reward for the excellent progress he has made.

Said Reds under-19 manager John Owens: "Everyone at the Academy is so pleased for Paul. It was a great experience for him to be third choice against Leicester and it will be good for him to travel with the first team to Slovenia.

"Paul has tremendous ability, he shows good handling and command of his area, he is good on crosses and an excellent shot stopper." .

like i was saying, id love to see our academy lads being given a run in the team at some point and see how they go on from there. welsh and semi are already promised 10+ games this season and i'll be hoping that they make full use of it. :p
