Nah you make a fair point in that a world class striker is unlikely to come to Liverpool, that's where I feel far less optimistic, but after watching most of our signings from last summer for a year I can honestly say that almost all of them possess great potential. I also feel that Lallana is an excellent player who will go onto have a very good premier league campaign if he manages to stay fit.
I take your point on Milner but he is a different player to Gerrard. You don't play that many games for England and win a league title with City if you're that shit. Also, it speaks volumes that most City fans (at least what I've read) wanted him to stay at the Etihad. But either way, neither he or Ings is a gamble due to their miniscule transfer fees.
Balotelli is, you're right, an odd one. He may well be asked to stay on at Liverpool and do very little or we will sell at a reduced price.
Liverpool's biggest problems are Sterling and Rodgers:
- Sterling will eventually be sold, so who will that large pot of money be spent on? That's a worry, as you said, which world class striker would want to come?
- Rodgers has the potential to be a very good manager but his stubbornness is disastrous. Mourinho surely showed him that you need to be a pragmatist and adaptable to change throughout a season but Rodgers seems incapable of this.
So, it's not that I'm overly optimistic - but some of our signings from last year WILL begin to bed in and both Milner and Ings represent low-risk purchases. It'll be interesting to see if we can actually bring in that world class striker though.
