By the way Steaua and Liverpool now have something new in common as of last night. The only two teams to reverse a 1-0 scoreline and qualify for the final in the ECC/CL are Steaua in 1986 (lost 1-0 at Anderlecth, won 3-0 at home) and 'Pool who did it yesterday (Y)

It looks like someone enjoys watching Liverpool sometimes:

Muricy Ramalho, currently managing the bambis, had this to say about 'Pool

Reporter: What team do you enjoy watching?
MR: Liverpool. A focused team, well coached, that knows what they want in the pitch. It doesn't have many stars and it's not expensive compared to other European sides. I enjoy watching Liverpool play. They're a "tidy" side.

Nice to have Brazilians enjoying Liverpool, even if the guy is coaching the bambis.

We got Lucas!!! We got Lucas!!!

He signed from Gremio for around 12M euros, and it's really nice to have him, but with so many Central Midfielders already at the club, all of them doing quite nicely, it's weird we've spent so much money on him.

He does have the class needed to wear the Liverpool shirt though. Let's hope he does as well for us as he did for Gremio. He joins the squad after Gremio finishes their participation in the Libertadores.

Wouldn't he also be captaining the under 20's this summer Kibe? I'm pretty excited by what I've read of the lad. Sounds like a new emerging 'Kaka' kind of player, with fantastic all round ability and youth on his side. Bloody hell, already captain of the u20's and already drafted in the senior team, along with that Player of the Season in the league accolade. Sounds boss all right, can't wait to see him in action for us. Tell us more Kibe.

i think hes a bit more defensive than kaka. i think this means we will let danny guthrie move on to southampton permanently. maybe hes more like gilberto silva, but not that defensive.

From what I have heard Lucas is more a CM than anything else, he can defend and attack while Kaka is much more a plain AMC. Still a great player but you had enough midfielders imo, Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso, and etc.

yeah, Kaka was always much more of an attacking midfielder while Lucas is a defensive midfielder.

Lucas seems to be a good lad, not easily impressed by money, and he seems to know where he wants to get. He moved out of his parents' house at 13 for a chance at a football club.

We don't get much onfo on him, as he plays outside the Rio-Sao Paulo "axis", but he did go on to win the Player of the Year award last season (youngest player ever to win the award, 19 years 11 months old). Of course, winning that isn't an indicator of the players' performance in Europe, but if you look at the last 5 winners, it does show good players:

2006: Lucas (Grêmio)
2005: Tevez (Corinthians)
2004: Robinho (Santos)
2003: Alex (Cruzeiro) - Fenerbahce's Alex, not PSV's
2002: Kaká (São Paulo)

All of them quality players, though Alex couldn't make it big and Robinho is still not exactly what the Brazilians expected he'd be, but you can see what kind of player gets the award. The simple fact that Lucas won even though he's not an attacking minded player shows he must be something special. He does tend to be a little reckless on challenges from time to time though (like Stevie and Momo used to be when younger).

There's the U20 tournament in Canada this summer, so if you people can watch that you can have a better idea.

Ta for the info mate! He does line up alongside some cracking names there. I think I was most chuffed when someone mentioned him as being Dunga MkII which is some standard to be compared too. Hope he beds in well and continues to develop. Now that Rafa is being given the funds to scour the world for top talent, it'll be quite the revelation to see the players we can challenge for. Also heard an unsubstantiated rumour from somewhere that we've also done a deal for Pato, the Duck? Kinell, about ready to blow me load I am.

Pato? well... he just signed a new contract, so I believe it'll be tough to get him out of his club (rumours have it that it'd take 18M euros). He's also quite young, 18 this year I guess, so maybe it's better for him to take part in a complete season in Brazil before moving abroad.

Pato has got huge potential but he's not ready yet for Europe. As for Lucas, he's a great player. Good signing, hopefully he'll gel with the rest of the team and adapt as soon as possible.

Team Captain
Because any team can win a one off game, but to do well in the league requires consistancy and thats something that Liverpool do not have enough of at the moment.
