Because Pires was actually paying attention, you know, like he's supposed to, he actually made contact with the ball and therefore it was a live ball but the official got it wrong. You can review the video if you like.

There won't be any big signings until after the Dubai takeover, even if there is some money available.

Mascherano's deal would be a loan for at least a season and a half, from what I read.
