I think he is no better than van Gaal, Wenger, Rodgers, Pellegrini, or Martinez. In fact, I would put him below van Gaal and Wenger in career achievements, and probably below Rodgers and Martinez in terms of tactical nous. It is easy to park the bus, it is not easy to strive for something higher and succeed.

Unless they spend the Suarez money very wisely I think Liverpool will struggle to grab the fourth CL spot. So far they have not spent wisely, their purchasing strategy seems to be mirroring the disastrous post-Bale purchasing strategy at Tottenham.

Lallana and Lambert are good players but not players who will bring the title to Liverpool. They are not winners. Liverpool should have attempted to sign Sanchez, a game changer.

I like Roberto Mártinez a lot, and I'm partial to Buck Rodgers' American name, but José is on another plane in terms of nous ... Mou's Real Madrid team hold the most number of goals in a single La Liga season, and averaged 61% possession despite tactically allowing concession of the ball when facing Barça -- well, not without trying; that 2011 Supercopa first leg has to be one of the highest quality meaningless club games I've watched ... you are very poorly informed about Mourinho ...

I agree that ever since Inter (maybe his last year at Chelsea), he's been getting more and more defensive oriented, but while his teams have always been balanced and not exactly gung-ho, there's NO WAY you can say Porto had a "park the bus" tactic in those 2 years. Defending a result? Everyone does that.

I'm saying that Mourinho is a good manager, but no better than the other 5 mentioned. This fits in very nicely with the spending angle, because if you give any of those 5 other managers the jobs and funds that Mourinho had I believe they could have achieved at least similar success. It is not difficult to win domestic leagues when you can outspend everyone 10 to 1.
