LIVE 8: Help to Make Poverty History!

i just got back from live 8 at philly. it was awesome, except for all the crowded trains to/from philly. hakeem i saw kaiser chiefs and they were great. i think the best was the linkin park/jay-z parts, 'encore' is a great song, and they did it very well.
i was relatively close to the action, so i could see the musicians from afar, and compared to most people, i got to see live action and they saw it on the 'jumbotron' things. this is quite an event to remember!

David Gilmour's voice is still so ****in superb considering his age. I thought they (Pink Floyd) were absolutely spot on. Legends. :jambo:

I was also absolutely delighted to see Richard Ashcroft :) He went to the same school as I did and grew up round here. I loved it when Chris Martin said "This is probably the best song ever written" about Bittersweet Symphony. Definitely is a contender for my all time favourite. I loved The Verve. :(

And is it just me or is Birhan Woldu like, really attractive :D

She's the woman who Bob Geldof brought on and was holding hands with Madonna, became known as the 'face of famine' when she was literally shown dying in 1985:

btw, I saw Shakira's performance in Paris and she was pretty great. Green Day was awesome in Berlin too (Y)
a big dissapointment were The Killers. I mean, they were awesome but they only did one song :(

Boo who, who cares about some drugged out puppets of record companies trying to further or revitalise their careers. Some ironed out hacks wanting a last chance in the limelight.

"Getting the rich to help the poor" Bono and "Sir (plastic) Paul" are pretty poor themselves [sarcasm/].

I spit on this ****. They all suck.

:nape: :jambo:

Mariah Carey's the most obvious of them. What with her water shennanagans and the famous quote "I couldn't beleive those Africans. I mean, all those bugs and stuff... ewww"

Pink Floyd were class, mind. I do hope this reform is more than temporary.

What a line-up of great bands (and a few crap ones thrown in for good measure). The best thing about it was that the BBC (yes, the Beeb) didn't censor any of the swear words...that just made my day. It would be interesting to see how many complaints they got...I bet a shítload of them! :rockman:

Total Urban legend, dude.

Anyway, the Floyd/The Who/Bruce Cockburn/Deep Purple/Annie Lennox and Neil Youn performances were the highlights for me........almost better than the time I got head at the tender age of 6 from that runaway junkie whore cousin of mine.

Wish You Were Here and comfortably Numb almost brought tears to my eyes, man. Great to see Waters in such an earnest and friendly mood.....who knows, maybe this could be the start of something......big or small, me no care. Just as long as they're performing live.

Royal Albert Hall type reunion a la Cream maybe? Biding My Time, man.

Am I the only one that thinks this did nothing to help Africa and was just an ego boost for Bob Geldof and the rest of his old friends?
There was no money raised, some source are still claiming the organisers ended up out of pocket, and how many people are honestly going to remember the day for the music and how many are going to remember it for Africa.
Also, I find it incredibly hypocritical when all these people like Geldof stand up and try to get people to give money when they have probably wasted enough money to feed an Africa village for a year. Look at the amounts of money Elton John has spent on **** like wigs, flowers and clothes recently.
And I fail to see how a concert is going to persuade the G8 leaders to do something anyway.

It's not about money. Giving money to Africa funds the dodgy regimes even more. As does debt cancellation. There are a lot of complex issues about Africa's situation and this concert only highlights the debt side.

Sure, this concert will do frig all and it does sound like it's Sir Bob's ego trip. I mean, he performed after saying he wouldn't. Yay! Let's hear that one hit wonder one more time, shall we?

This concert is simply a crappy awareness boost. An awareness boost that we never really needed. We know Africa's skint. We know it's corrupt. So do the G8 but to solve Africa will take more than money.

Yeah, Pink Floyd were amazing. Messed up Breathe a bit, but Money is my favourite song, and they played Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb really well, almost as good as the PULSE performance. Last thing I watched, the highlight too. Shame they are all so old now I guess - I can fill in for Nick Mason, love drumming to Pink Floyd!

Most "aid" is meaningless. Food aid is sold by the government at rediculously low prices, damaging the local markets and driving farmers out of jobs, not to mention the fact that farmers are turning to cash crops in order to fund imports from the so-called "free" market. Financial Aid usually goes towards funding the dodgy regimes or making a small hole in their insummountable debts. There is more than enough food to feed everyone in Africa, its the corrupt and badly organised supply chain that makes people starve.

Awareness is more important than giving money which will be badly spent.

Although I have to say, it made me laugh when the bloke in the audience said he was "only here to see coldplay" on live tv, classic.

What a stupid thing to say. You've failed to grasp the whole idea behind live 8.

The issue is NOT aid, it is debt. We have many countries who cannot develop because they are hamstrung by debt and excessive interests. Clear the debt and allow the countries to develop.

Live 8 raises awareness and shows the 8 most powerful men that their electorate want to see something done about clearing debt.

i just thought it was great to see Pink Floyd and The Who back together (H) They were both quality :rockman:

Robbie Williams had that crowd in the palm of his hand during his performance, he was awesome - even though his music isn't really my taste, he was amazing.

Keane and Razorlight were also immense in my view.

Stereophonics as awesome live as always :rockman:

Snoop Dog was quite cool aswell.

My Dynamite sucked :(

Yeah, but as I said in my first post, I fail to see how a concert is going to persuade the G8 leaders to do something. Even if debt is written off, the situation will still return to how it is until corruption etc. is sorted out.
As I also said in my other post, I'd bet anything that more people were there for the music than the message.
I still see it as a waste of money that could have been towards much better causes and as an ego boost for Geldof in particular, who I seem to remeber a little while ago said he was fed up with being "Mr bloody Africa" anyway.

Anyone see that guy who sang children of the revolution with Elton John? That was the worst thing by an absolute mile. Pete something his name was. He looked like he has taken drugs and/or alcohol, and then flopped around the stage not really singing. He was absolutely awful.

The Who, Pink Floyd, REM, Paul Macca, all quality.
